Sky HD Software - 605270A removed?

I've just had my replacement SkyHD box following a hard disk failure. I've attempted to download the new software (605270A), but it remains on 605110. Has SKy pulled the plug on the new software, or do I have to wait before they authorise my box for this updte?

Good morning to you all.

I had HD installed yesterday. The first box would not update to the latest s/ware (3.10q), so after a couple of attempts, he eventually agreed to try another box he had on his van.

He updated this one straight away, as per instructions, and it updated from 3.10n to 3.10q on first attempt.

Interestingly though, the model number stayed on 605110 & didn't change to 605270A either.

Now I haven't noticed any bugs as yet, yet although the FF does respond to x30, I would not say it's the smoothest in the world.

It hasn't appeared to of lost time though, which was a big issue.

Just seems strange that the model number has not changed to the reported new one, that the Sky HD Team posted on DSpy.

Regards James

When new software is being downloaded - it is usual for the 'forced update' software to be the previous version - just in case the new software has serious problems.

You just have to wait a while for an auto-update.

I successfully forced a software update from 605110 to 605270A over a week ago, so not sure why this isn't possible now...

So are we saying that 605270A is not on the transport stream yet then, therefore not available via F/U

I'm aware that F/U can revert you back to older versions, that's why not always a good idea, and therefore wait.

Just seems strange that Sky HD Team post that 605270A is the latest one, smoothing out certain issues, however it's not available to new boxes being installed.

Also seems strange that it was available, as reported, via update last week.

On another note, I notice the fan stays on all the time. It's not the disc, as I hear this spin down when put into standby, followed a few seconds later by the fan. Should the fan stay on all the time. My box is very well ventilated.

I've not checked to see if the fan is always on - if it is then it speed varies.

I can only tell if the fan is on by putting my ear next to the box.

It is normal for the forced update to be the previous version for a few weeks - it the new version was then perhaps it has a problem.

Cheers Oz.

Well I say it's the fan , but then again I don't know if it is the fan , or whether just the noise of the box (if you get my drift)

It's not unbearable, however just a slight humming noise that's on all the time, and then goes off about 30 secs after the disc spinning down when put in standby. I guess I've been spoilt with a Pace V1 in there for 4 years that made no noise what so ever.

In regards to the software - perhaps no downloads this weekend may explain it?

I'm hoping my new box doesn't update to new version. My box was working fine 'til the update, then loads of problems. Just had a new one put in today.

When powered down - box remains in standby for a while when powered up

I've had Sky HD since the 8th June, they cut it fine. But I did notice this issue when I first tried to update the software using the instructions posted on the FAQ. I have version 3.10q.
I powered down the box (unplugged from the wall) and then tried to power it up. But the box remained on standby for what seemed an eternity, ok around 30 minutes.
I foolishly tried again and the same. I am now quite nervous about powering down the box in case I can't get it out of standby. I never had this problem with a Thomson Sky+ box I had before. Has anyone else noticed this?

its the same for me. I power off and then on again holding the 'back up' button and it just seems to go to standby. How long do you need to hold the button for ? I had it installed on July 1st and although the installer did a software update before anything else I am still on model no. 605110 s/w ver 3.10q

Does it have to be powered off at the mains then back on again or can it be done from standby.

thanks

mike

When the Sky guy installed my HD box he did a forced software update. When the update had finished he sat there waiting. After about a minute I said to him "You can turn the box on now", and he replied that you should always let the box start itself up after an update. Now, I've had lots of Sky people tell me lots of strange things over the years, but this guy appeared to know what he was doing, so it may well be worth considering if your updates aren't working properly.

It takes about 8-10 seconds for the four lights to come on whilst holding down backup, the update can then take up to 10 minutes. The box then goes into standby after the update and can't be switched back on via the remote for a couple of minutes. The box does not turn itself on after a forced update BTW.
