Yep, there is something profoundly odd when many Scottish people wanted England to lose in the World Cup, and the English happily support Andy Murray at Wimbledon. I'm British and I support everyone.

Err no. There is a fierce rivalry between Scotland and England at footlball (any most other team games for that matter). It is a team game between countries. Tennis is not and is about one individual against another.

Ask anyone from Scandanavia and they will tell you the same sort of thing. Do you think any Norwegians or Danish were supporting Sweden? The answer would be an emphatic no.

UK is quite unique in that we have separate countries competing from within one larger country. Long may it continue. We should be proud of that and our 'British-ness'.

Well i don't mind being the first to answer the OP's question

Yes, it was better.....miles better Football in HD is absolutely awesome IMO. Doesn't matter who's playing, it's like "i couldn't stand to watch footie in SD ever again".
My wife (who hates footie and has absolutely no interest in AV/HD etc) compares the PQ to watching with/without your specs on. SD is like being short sighted and not having your glasses on, HD is the result you get from putting 'em back on again, everything becomes so sharp and detailed again.

We sure did, and Ronaldo's penalty shot hit the cross bar, ricocheted back and smashed him in the face - breaking his nose, removing his two front teeth, and bursting about 50 spots - it sure was messy in HD.

Actually there is only one country - United Kingdom.

This surprised me aswell - I only found out recently when my son came home with a homework assignment to find out how many countries there are in the world.

The answer varies slightly (around 192) as new countries get formed or recognised and also whether you include disputed countries.

But one thing is absolutely clear - England, Scotland, Wales and Great Britain are not recognised as countries - they are grouped as United Kingdom.

Cheers,

Nigel

I can't wait for the next Elephant Polo World Championship to be shown in HD. Then I can show my support for the Natives of my adopted country.

What about Northern Ireland ?

I think a bit of "re-branding" is required..... UNITED Kingdom ??? What's united about the Scots hating the English, the Welsh hating pretty much all the others (and themselves), the Irish trying to kill anyone and the English not realising that Britain ain't so GREAT anymore (maybe rename it MEDIOCRE BRITAIN??)

Spooky..... I went to see Al Murray live in Glasgow two weeks ago. His encore was a song about football - which when sung in Engurland, was probably met with chants of "Rooney, Rooney"....... Unfortunately, he had to stop half way through due to the boo-ing and heckling. I wouldn't want to quote his exact words, but I don't think he was showing his admiration for the Scots
