Aspect Ratio Switching - Sky HD

Apologies if this has been discussed before but Forum searches never seem to work - I've tried.

Ive recently had Sky HD installed - wow, great etc etc. But why does new technology always include a backward step? Via HDMI from the Sky HD box to my Hitachi 7200 HD plasma it no longer auto switches between 4:3 and 16:9 on SD broadcasts. It isn't the telly cos the old Sky box worked via SCART just fine with this telly. The HD box is on Auto by the way, not set to 1080i.

Is it the box? Or the HDMI connection etc?

Any ideas? Do I have to have AV6 (HDMI) for HD and use the old SCART output for SD? What a pain....

Ian

PS any news on other HD channels like ITV?

I have the same TV and the same issue.

I now just leave SkyHD set to 1080i and switch to RGB scart to watch anything in 4:3 that I can't stand watching in stretch-o-vision.

As you say, a backward step ... I might email Hitachi on this but they'll be as responsive as ITV are with their queries / complaints no doubt !!

Thanks mjm.

But actualy you may find Hitachi better than you think. When I first got my 7200 I had a problem with the component signal from my XBox 360 that I wrongly thought was the telly. Hitachi, within 2 days of my reporting it, had given me the number of the dealig engineer, and had tried to reproduce the problem in their lab, and came back with a few suggestions. It turned out to be the lead.

Credit where credit is due, I found them second to none on customer service for queries mate.

It is the tv - but you are not alone.

It seems that most tvs are not switching to 4:3 on channels like UK Gold.

The latest Toshiba and Pioneers seems to in 1080i mode via HDMI - which would indicate that it may be a tv issue.

But as the Pioneers may also go "pop" when switching aspects, this feature appears to be cold comfort !!!!

No problem ... I'll log on using my laptop when I'm watching the football and list my settings ... give me 15 minutes. Let me know what the settings look like on your set if you try them.
