But in SD it's still amazing. Grab the R1 DVD for all the extras including "watch along with cinema audience" and "invidual stories".

Much fun, well worth the £22-odd I paid for import.

Just checked the recording and found out it screwed up and started recording at the closing credits! (just before I checked in fact).

I now have a 3 minute long film. Thanks a bunch Sky. Plus there isn't another showing until the 19th. Thanks a bunch again.

Yeah the R1 SE boxset was worth every penny, bought it even knowing I would watch the movie in HD at a later date and it would be on my list for DVD to HD upgrades.

Movie recorded fine so that's another in the queue to watch

Wasn't that impressed with Sin City when i went to see it at the Cinema a while back, the way its filmed and looks lends itself to looking better in HD than alot of other movies.

i watched it with the missus, great film, great pq.

now the bad points

what was all the blue artifacting about? does skys encoders not know the difference between B&W and colour?

and i had a technical fault on mine! tho im not sure if i caused this due to pressing the record button to stop the recording after the film, it gave me a "technical fault" and 0% used, couldnt even go in to view it!

so i cut my losses and set it to record the repeat at 2:10 on an sd channel and went to bed.
come back in the morning and its "to be recorded" !!! i've read others have had this fault but not me before.

anyway i set 2 programs to record to test if everything was ok when it was time to start it said i couldnt as 2 other programs were recording! ***?? no im not!

instant rewind was also broke! would just lock the box up for 2 mins

anyway it appeared that the sin city "to be recorded" was acting as if it was recording so locked a feed for itself. i deleted it but it still wouldnt free up to record 2 programs. i did a planner rebuild and now everythings working great again

just ****** off that Sin City in HD isnt listed for me to setup to record it again! i loved that film!
also whats with the guide taking so long to load listings? cant they just upload listings to a part of the hdd and read it off that? it gets really annoying having to wait for it to fetch listings!

Watched this last night and had no problems or artifacting (that I noticed).

P/Q was very good indeed although I have to compare it to my DVD copy

I've watched quite a few movies on the Movies HD variants, and SBO HD now. There is nothing like the picture detail of BBC HD, or many National Geographic and Discovery programmes. What's going on? To me, it seems relatively poor and I can't say it's vastly better than DVD. And it should be.

Surprised to see that no one else had the same problem as us watching it on a 436 XDE.

Whenever there was any significant movement on white parts of the screen, or even when blinking or moving your eyes, a bright yellow trail effect was visible to the eye, or blue on the black parts.

I took this to be the "rainbow effect" experienced on DLP screens. Didn't know it was possible on a plasma.

My fiancee noticed it as soon as I pointed it out and was too distracting. We were only watching 10 mins after recording it the night before, waiting for something else to start.

Hoping we can forget about it once we get into the film but could be a real problem.

Yes I noticed this too.

As you say it was as if parts of the black background had a slightly blueish tinge? Annoying in a film that is almost all black and dark!

Strange...

Have to say I thought it was a cracking picture and didn't spot any problems - not that I was looking for any though....

i think your problem is kind of the rainbow effect mixed with having to make a b&w picture out of primary colours and the way your panel displays it.

im positive plasmas do suffer from rainbow problems as im sure i've seen it before and its one reason why i went lcd

I think I'll try turning the contrast down when I watch it. There's a lot of pure black and pure white in the film. Making them slightly grey might lessen the problem.

I noticed this blue tinge as well on my Sony LCD. It doesn't appear when playing my region1 dvd of Sin City so I don't know whether its a problem with my tv or the HD broadcast.

I believe this has been discussed in depth in another thread in the plasma forum. I think the reason put forward was that the decay rate of the phosphor that makes green is slightly slower than the other colours so on a black and white image of very high contrast with quick movement you can see green flashes.

It is only really noticeable on films like sin city or computer games etc when you do very quick pans, one of the drawbacks of plasmas, but then how much stuff do you watch in black and white?

It was shown on SM 9/9HD on Saturday. The next showing of it will be on 16th July on SM 1 at 10.10pm and the next HD showing will be 19th July at 11pm on SM 9HD

How did you find out which films were on later in the month beyond what the EPG shows?

By my special powers that allow me to see into the future.......

Ok, maybe not. I've been using DigiGuide for some years now. It's a TV guide which you can download from the net unto your PC/MAC. http://www.digiguide.com/
