Has Sky HD damaged my tele?

I've got a serious issue with my Panasonic lxd60 LCD television, it seems to have happened while the screen (set to "auto") was adjusting between a HD channel and an SD channel..

I usually get a black screen for a couple of seconds before I get a picture, when using HDMI ... switching between a HD channel and an SD one

However, whilst watching BBC HD this evening for the football and then going to Sky+, deciding to play a programme I had recorded (SD) -- I got the usual black screen for a couple of seconds, but then it followed up with the screen flashing/flickering!?

I thought initially it would have only been the HDMI, but I was quite surprised that the flickering/flashing on my tv seems to be on all inputs , even on the built in Freeview.

I have tried switching off the television for a few minutes and turning it back on in the hope that it would sort it out, but no luck!

Luckily its still under warranty, but I'm praying that if I leave the tv off overnight, it might sort itself out by the morning somehow or the other.. (I really do hope so).

Anyone come across this problem b4?

Given that you have the problem on all inputs - even those through which the SkyHD signal is not routed (like the built in Freeview tuner) - I think it highly unlikely that Sky HD has damaged your television. Something has certainly gone wrong with your TV, but I suspect (in this case) Sky HD is not to blame.

Woke up this morning , switched the tele on and its working fine again! thank heavens for that.

Mind you we did have the tele on non stop from about 7am till 10pm last night (kids watching Cbeebies for a couple of hours, SpiderMan2 on dvd and then me the World Cup football, with cricket in between) --- I take it that 15 hr shift for the tele might have caused some fatigue!

Thankfully its fine now,

I couldn't get to sleep last night, thinking i'd have to call up Panasonic's customer service tomorrow morning and then wait god know's how long for their engineer to come and repair the tele.

In the meantime I wondered, I'd end up digging out the old CRT and watching the rest of the World Cup and the summer cricket SD.

Oh well, its looking okay for now.

Sky now recommend that the tv format is set to 1080i and not auto.

Ozsat, why do they say that? I need mine on Auto or I cant select 4:3 on my TV for 4:3 broadcasts on SD? Surely it isnt harmful?

Ta,

Ian

On some sets, people have complained of a noise spike when the TV switches from 576p to 1080i or 720p. Thus, to prevent this, Sky now recommend you leave it at 1080i. However, if you don't experience this problem, then there's no harm using the Auto mode.

I don't use Auto mode myself, but it just sounds like your set adjusting to the different resolution. I very much doubt this is harmful.
