I was speaking to a mate of mine, who's had Sky HD since 22nd May - he's in no doubt that the pic quality on Sky's HD coverage of the match featuring England B was in his words NOTICEABLY BETTER and SHARPER than the picture BBC is showing for the World Cup. Is he exaggerating?

It would certainly have been on one of the SD Sky Sports channels as well as the HD channel, all Sky Sports HD stuff is also shown in SD like the cricket.

Agree. Sky pictures look better, I guess because Sky is originating the feed. The BBC have to take the satellite transmission of another broadcaster and restransmit (with a potential standards conversion).

Yea Not unexpected. But still the BBC HD world cup coverage is a welcome alternative to BBC1/2 and ITV.

ITV Time to sort out an HD channel on sat for the England games.

I thought the Italy v Ghana game was the best quality I have seen by far (apart from an occasional rainbow like line at the bottom of the screen (did anyone else get that?).

You mean like a bit of a test signal? If yes, then I saw that on a few occasions.

Yes I saw it also, maybe about 6 times during the whole match. am willing to put up with this as it is a test, especially when you get HD World Cup. I could sky plus the match on BBC, but I don't, I leave work early to get home to watch the BBC HD live feed (I live in Ireland, and us plebs don't get BBC HD in the EPG, I had to get it using "add channels" so I can't sky plus it with no channel number!). Would love to hear the game in 5.1 it has to be said, maybe next week?

Must agree, I was showing a friend my set up when the game started and I thought it was the best PQ I have seen on HD yet, but I saw no rainbow effect though

Yes, this is a fact.I kept part of the game to compare Sky vs BBC football and so just checked to be sure. The pictures last month are definitely cleaner and sharper than any World Cup feed so far.

It looks the same size to me; it perhaps is a bit lower down the screen though.

Some more pics the movement of the players looks blured in the photos due to the shutter speed on my camera.

Germany v Poland PQ seems upto the standards of the earlier matches, certainly noticeably better PQ than yesterday (Brazil etc.).

Disagree - not as good as Germany v Costa Rica coverage. Studio segments particularly noticeable.

The quality of the match footage is down to the german host broadcaster. I think when sky do the premiership games it will be better as sky's camera work is far superior than what is coming out of germany at the min.

Studio shots from the England highlights are terrible tonight, lots of grain!

also the pitch has a weird film(not movie type film) like coating when moving
