Samsung downstairs still waiting and making the most of it.

Blessed relief using the old EPG on it compared to the Pace upstairs, which leaves me feeling like an OAP attempting to tackle a VCR.

you may be in luck then .

I have a Samsung box still with the old EPG and was so sick of the lack of information I called up to enquire about the new EPG and after initially getting nowhere I was eventually told that Samsing and Amstrad boxes will not be getting the new EPG update in the near future due to version stability issues. They are doing all they can to fix the problems and continue with the roll out at a later date .. no timescale was available !!

Noooooooooooooooo .. I want my EPG

We got a booklet from Sky showing the new guide and its features, this was back in April, possibly even March.

But this has not shown up on the Sky box yet, as an after thought, do you need to have it plugged into the telephone line to get it, or do you need to do a forced firmware update?

you don't need to be connected to a phone line for the update .. it is done via the dish.

You shouldn't need to do a forced update but it won't hurt to try it .. will take about 10-15 mins !

Re: The NEW EPG?

I got the revamped EPG a short while ago on my Pace box, and wish I could roll back to the old version. The new guide looks prettier but seems slower, with a more unwieldy interface. At first I thought it was just a matter of getting used to it, but it's as much of a chore to navigate now as it was when I initially got the thing.

Thompson boxes were all finnished weeks ago being the first boxes to be completed! If you have a Thompson and still dont have the new EPG then do a forced update and that should bring it through.

Re: The NEW EPG?

Trust me you are far far better off with the old EPG.
Apart from the pretty UI and much better implementation of series link I really appreciate the following benefits of the old EPG:
no lockups
no failed recordings
quicker to access menus

History: Former Thompson owner who had few problems until new EPG was implemented. Box swapped for Samsung and old EPG. Now happy :-)

Re: The NEW EPG?

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I've got one of the first Thompsons (with the component output) and have had the new EPG for ages. Its much better than the old one, admittedly it is marginally slower but hardly noticeable. The additional features and UI are a vast improvement over the old EPG.

The Thompson, in my experience, has been a fairly reliable unit. I used to get the occasional crash or failed recording before but I have to say that since the EPG upgrade it has been 100% reliable.

I am still on the original capacitors too!!!

Well ~5% of electronics are defective at manufacture. And with Thomson HD boxes defective means 'Will not fail catastrophically'.

Over the weekend I had to reboot/planner rebuild my Thomson (15months old) 3 times, and it is still not right. I've got hold of a brand new box that I'll be getting at the weekend and hopefully that wont be Thomson.

Re: The NEW EPG?

To be honest im no longer arsed when the planner comes anymore.... Sky have taken so long to deliver it and since they put repeating sky guides on Anytime (and its still not here) all the buzz and excitement has now gone for me...

Ive cancelled my HD subs and 2 multirooms and better off each month by £40!!

Couldn't agree more with you mate, perhaps we should start a thread to keep Samsung & Amstrad boxes on the old faithful EPG.

It's about time someome else took on Sky's HD monopoly & begin to drive prices down......
