Sky BB WITHOUT their router

Has anyone managed to use their existing router and not install the sky/Netgear router

I have a Netgear DG834GT all set up and working nicely with 3 vista pc's - 2 xbox 360's - 2 Xbox - 2 PSP's - 1 PDA

AND do not want to mess it up with their unit

Any pointers in the right direction as the officail line is you have to use their unit

Re: Sky BB WITHOUT their router

Sky use that router aswell

No you can't use your own one because one of the agreement with Sky is you must use the equipment they supply.

I didn't say you can't use other equipment.

I said As part of your terms and conditions of signing up to Sky broadband, you agreed to use their hardware that they supply

Because you have same router sky provide you could swap them easily or Sky is locked down with your username and password for use on Sky so you need to do some hacking of the router to get it and then use it on yours.

Re: Sky BB WITHOUT their router

The URL Injection link sounds very complicated and probably beyond many, myself included. Can anyone give an idiot's version. I assume this gives you the password to use on your existing router.

If you swap routers (I already use a Netgear) is it straightforward to connect other devices?

Look at the post by Ratti3 - followed the instructions yesterday myself and it was a doddle...

Re: Sky BB WITHOUT their router

can't you just use their router/modem and connect your own router/access point into the ethernet port of it? Effectively just using it for the ADSL bit and your own stuff for the wireless bit?

eg currently i use an old Netgear 824M wireless router/modem but have the wireless bit disabled. I have an 'n' wireless access point which connects to the ADSL modem via ethernet. Could I just switch out the modem?

Re: Sky BB WITHOUT their router

is the sky bb router a router only or modem/router? Is it any faster over a voyager 2110?

Its a Netgear DG834GT and yes it is a modem\router.

And yes you can add an Access Point and use that instead.
