I think maybe this (and not HDTV) could be the reason why Sky+ boxes are being "sold off" ?

SKY+ will become the base line product for the foreseeable future, the current price is down to the usual approach SKY has employed with it's digital hardware reducing it over time and using it as a marketing tool to generate and keep subscribers.

They have had "used" hardware promotions before so the £49 SKY+ is nothing special and who really knows what the gate price of SKY+ really is

This internet adventure is basically a service offering content to existing subscribers so they can download it using their existing PC and broadband connection, nothing special but perhaps the first move to "educate" their users into delivery of content by other means. There is no new net ready STB on the way and no sign of the long rumoured ethernet addon that was supposed to provide a fast and reliable return path for digiboxes.
