Just that i am on a average 3mb broadband unlimited with sky, and BT sayd they will start offering Infinity in my area from 15-th of March.

I've gone for it anyway, sick to death of only getting 100kbps speed, has anyone else got offered this?
I should hope they offer everyone the router upgrade free! I'm still on the old wireless G router

I registered on the site ages ago and am in an area in Leeds that was first to get BT Infinity but no call from Sky yet

I've registered on that site a couple of days ago. Not heard anything yet, but coincidentally had a letter through from BT yesterday offering me infinity for half price for 6 months.

I've been happy with my Sky service, so I'd rather stick with them if at all possible, but if I don't hear anything from them soon, I might give them a call.

Just had a call from Sky after registering my interest a few days ago. Extra £12.50 a month and should get the full 40mb apparently. No £50 installation fee and BT man turns up on the 19th

If you don't mind me asking, what broadband deal do you have with Sky at the moment (assuming your using Sky already)?

Hi stiscooby, I've got Sky's unlimited package at the moment, the £7.50 one.

They'll have to. The old router won't work.

Very interested in this. I'm up to my neck in Sky already - Sky Unlimited broadband, Sky Talk unlimited (free international calls) and Sky World TV. Pretty happy with the broadband connection (recently switched to Sky from TalkTalk) but faster is always better!

One question though - I got the latest Sky router (wireless N) when I switched to them. But it's not gigabit interface which I assume would deliver faster speed within the home (tell me if I'm wrong please!).

Are there other / better routers that I could use with Sky - either current broadband or the new fibre?

I called sky to enquire about fibre and they said there are plans but no date, only asking as I am due to finish on the 100mb BT fibre broadband in the next few days..however they want £35 p.m and then £14.60 p.m line rental...and no deals at all.....poor.

sky "enforce" a you must use a router only, and the router sent for current fibre installs only has 100mbps port anyway(same as the current BTO Modem ), and it's the same sagem router with different firmware.

i say enforce, there are ways around it but it is against sky's TOS to do it.

Thanks for the info.

I checked the exchange. No fibre here yet anyway.

I think the only way to get it early is to register your interest and wait for them to phone you. During the call, the rep gave me a phone number in the event I needed to change my install date etc. She said not to use the normal broadband help number as they probably wouldn't know what I was on about (or have been told to say they don't know ).

I nearly missed the call as my wife had the phone when they called. The display showed an 08000 number so she was going to ignore it....glad I told her to answer it now

I revived a phone call two days after registering my interest. Free installation ( normally £50) and free router (£30). Had to take sky telephone package which is no biggie. all in its costing me about £3 extra a month but the telephone gives me free evening and weekend call so I could end up saving money
Just have to wait three weeks for installation.

Hi

Have been looking at fibre optic broadband, initially BT infinity as I didn't think Sky would be doing it. I have been a Sky subscriber for a while and am now glad to hear that Sky are upgrading and it should be available in my area. I have registered my interest and hopefully will soon be getting call.

I've got a gigabit network which I have my current sky BB router plugged into a gigabit switch with everything else coming off the switch so the only bottle neck is data coming in from the Internet, which isn't a problem as the connection isn't quick enough.

My question is if I were to plug the new router which has no gigabit port into the network would there be a bottle neck because the connection will be 10 times faster than my current connection.

Thanks

I believe Sky's fibre connection will (initially) be capped at 40Mb so there shouldn't be a bottleneck with a 100Mb port....assuming I've read your question correctly

honestly atm 80mbps is the highest your'll get from FTTC, it can go higher(around 300mbps iirc), but will need to go through offcom again.

tbh bto/isp's are gonna regret router choice when that happends

very unlikely considering your current sky username + password is associated to your current modem router

Yeh its programmed into the router, but it authenticates against a user/pass their end. As sky setup the routers its a possibility they will use the same user/pass. But could just as easy give a new one.

If anyone could say for definate would be great. I recall reading somewhere that the modems are sagem ones, so should be able to find out the user/pass if decide to use own router

Same for me

Annoying really, as I've got a letter from BT offering it to me, but I'd rather stick with Sky.

I wish there was a number to call about it.

Had mine installed last Wednesday which took them nearly 2hrs. I had a fibre extension fitted as I wanted the the router in the mix of my AV set up. They were extremely accomodating which I was pleased with, albeit rather shocked when I asked.

However...the engineer seemed very cagey when he was about to leave as I got the feeling he wasn't sure the broadband was actually functioning and connected. I stupidly advised him to 'leave it me as I'm sure it's just a matter of installing the Sky software onto the laptop' and they left. I was wrong!

Due to work I then couldn't get the opportunity to resolve the issue until Thursday. I phoned Sky and again none of the call agent staff were even aware that they were offering fibre optic broadband so after finally being passed around the houses I was finally put through to the right team. After being asked to move the Openreach modem to the living room (next to the router) the Techie guy thought it should work...it didn't. He then advised he would speak to BT and arrange another engineer call out. About 20mins later, low and behold, the internet light came on!!! Looks like they never activated the line.

All is working fine and dandy now though and I am extremely pleased with the upgrade. I'm currently kicking through 25mb as my laptop isn't N network/router capable but that will all change once the half card wireless N adaptor is delivered
