The usual SKY BB signal dropping.....

Right, this has been driving me mad for ages, and I have done the usual things, talked to SKY, changed the router channel, turned UPnP off, plugged it all into the master socket to avoid extension wiring,.....and I am still having problems with the signal....several times an hour, the laptop will lose the wireless connection and the router internet light will flash amber or go off leaving me without a connection.

The speeds are low, and I have accepted that, and the stats I have at the moment are:.....I think I am quite a way from the exchange......

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 304 kbps
Line Attenuation 75.0 db 51.2 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 10.0 db

I just don't know why the router - the Netgear 834GT - keeps dropping the signal or how I can go about stablising it......should I just replace the router....or would a new filter do the trick? They are both pretty old, so they will be my next move if nothing else helps....

I know these questions have been asked time and time again, but I have tried various different things from many different threads and still seem to be having trouble.......I am not sure if the drops out aree completely stopped with a hard-wire ethernet link as i may not have had the laptop connected for long enough, but it does seem more stable.......but it is not practical to have it hard wired at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Been playing around this evening, watching the router as I have been disconnecting every few minutes and the lights ALL go off when this happens...including the power indicator......I can only presume that there is a problem with the adaptor or the router and they are in need of replacement......unless anyone knows otherwise, I guess I will need to try a borrowed router and see how that works...

either power adaptor or Router, get Sky to replace it and make sure they do it FoC. They tried to charge a friend of mine as it was more than one year old and he politlely pointed out if the router he must use according to their T's and C's fails they should replace it FoC otherwise he would like either the login details for Sky BB to use a Router he already had or his MAC. They replaced it FoC.

Tried the power adapter and that hasn't helped.......tried an email with sky as I was going away for a couple of days, but not heard anything yet.....will try for a new router next I think, unless they come back with some sort of miracle cure!

I don't think you'll find any miracle cure,it's a miracle you've got broadband at all with an attn of 75db.

Certainly try for snother router if possible or flash your GT with dgteam firmware and raise the snr, this will lower your speed but give you a more stable connection,or even a call to Sky support and they should be able to raise the snr for you there and then.
