Massive speed drop

I have been with Sky broadband for a few years, its never going to be very fast as I'm 5km from the exchange in a straight line. I used to get about 1.6mb, however recently its barely hitting 0.5mb. I spent ages on the phone to diagnose the problem, they can't find any faults so suggested i buy a new router, £28 later and its still 0.5mb. They are now saying that its the fastest my line can achieve, so why is it so slow when it used to be thrice as fast?

My stats:
Downstream
Connection Speed 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 68.5db
Noise Margin 6.1db

Upstream
Connection Speed 480 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.5db
Noise Margin 11.0db

Could it be the famous Dynamic Line Management?

Might try that myself. Recently been upgraded (if that's what you could call it) to their 20Mb service. This has reduced my service to a snails-pace. After 2 weeks of patiently putting up with this dross, I called Sky & was informed that I was going through a 'calibration period'. Following the calibration expiry period stated to me, I called again to report no change in extremely slow speed. Now I'm in a 'testing period' apparently!!! I suppose there'll be an 'Operations period', followed by a 'Feedback' period next? I have my router in a secondary socket (not the main incomer) which I am informed could be the root of my trouble. Funny that, never was an issue until Sky started messing-around with the upgrade. Will try test socket before I try Forum again

btw calibration does not excist

they only do is a 10day line test and thats it seems to me they dont want you to leave since you getting slow speed

you might aswell get a dongle that go faster if virgin cable isnt in your area
