Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

I was okay. I did enjoy myself, but I was expecting a lot more. I'm amazed that there wasn't more of the big boys, Microsoft, Apple, etc. there on the day. A friend of mine speculated that due to Sony having a large presence at the show, maybe they lay down the law on certain competitors attending.

I didn't buy anything, my bank balance is healthy, but I'm not that happy. I had cash burning a hole in my pocket, but I couldn't really see anything I fancied. I wanted a new ASUS netbook, but they were nowhere to be seen.

The museum of computing history stand was really interesting. Really cool to play around with the gadgets of old. I was a bit confused to see the Highways Agency, the RAF and the National Trust with stalls...Felt like they were trying to fill up spaces with those.

If it's on next year, hopefully they'll take note of the little complaints and make it even better.

They said to us as we were packing up that they are thinking of having the next one in 6 months time. They are also looking at doubling the exhibition size, as this was the first one, they had no idea when they were planning it how popular it was going to be, hence they are already allowing people to pre-register for the next event.

Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

I went on the Saturday. Like Blackbriar, I was expecting to see more, especially Microsoft, Nintendo (not just he ds booth) more tech related websites but tbh, it was the first ever show and perhaps companies/businesses were somewhat luke warm to the event.

The show was good, Suzy, John and Jason were quite funny but unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to win any of the competitions! They did ask the audience if anyone had won one of the gadget show's TV competitions and only one audience member put their hand up!

In all it was enjoyable, but I'm sure this would event would be a learning experience for the event organisers.

Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

Was there on Sunday and had a good day, although getting back to London took twice as long as it should and TT took us on a bad route compared to the one getting there that was a breeze.

Like others I thought that some obvious names were missing, and some gadget/technology genres were covered very poorly and almost entirely absent, such as home automation with just a reseller of some not very inspiring controls from an obscure company in Dubai and little else. There was no Logitech with their universal remotes and Squeezebox audio devices, no Apple, little focus on security systems, no garden audio systems, no lighting companies, no water feature gadgets (Oase laminar jets for example), few if any robots other than the pretty lame robot dancers in the otherwise excellent live event. There were also some non-gadgety stands such as a big one for the Highways Agency to promote their new website that seemed out of place. The layout of stands was also a higgledy piggledy mish mash.

Overall though a good day out and looking forward to the next one. Themed zones would be nice so one could home in on a cluster of stands of specific interest, and I hope they can attract some of the companies with great products that were missing from this one.

Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

I was there on Sunday also

It had it's good points and bad points

Like mgzr1400 i too was dissapointed with the overall thing

The best part for me was the Nvidia stand that had the Geforce 3D Vision playable demo. It was amazing, racing through the streets in 3d was just brilliant and i cannot wait for this to come to PS3 and the main stream

However i was expecting the show "especially from THE GADGET SHOW LIVE" to have all the major players exhibiting all the latest jaw dropping gadgets that we would be expecting to see in the near future. But there was none of that apart from the 3D from nvidia. There was just loads of stalls selling the same stuff you can get anywhere. It was like bloody bowlers computer market. But i've never been to a show before so maybe that's just the way they all are.

Agree with the comments made about the Highways agency etc and Waterstones book stall. When the hell has a book ever been a gadget ! No clue on that one.

Could understand the RAF being there though as they brought a jet with them, and gadgets don't get much better than a jet plane !

Another good thing was watching the world champion Guitar hero strut his stuff. That guy can play !

And also the 4 people dancing in bright coloured outfits at the pacemaker stand was interesting. Watching the taller female was strangely erotic " maybe that's just me "

Also saw the girl at the swiss bike stand
Jon Weaver , Filmfreak71 and mgzr1400 you guys need to get out more
Ok she was a looker but she wasn't jaw dropping. Theres girls like that everywhere. "Anyway wait for the responses for that comment "

Lastly the figures made from metal were great Aliens Predator were cool but the Optimus Prime was amazing £5500 worth every penny ! if i had it to spare !

Here's hoping the next one will be better !

Never said she was a looker.. It was her body that I thought was 'wow'.. Nice looking for sure, but she had the longest legs I have ever seen.

But you are right.. I DO need to get out more

My g/f bought the book, which was signed, and you could get a dedication written in it if you wanted. I thought this was odd, particularly as it was the authors first book, and I didn't see why a book would be there. Then I realised that it was the book that Jason had been writing and as it was "their show", this made more sense. It's really a children's book and our 18 month is too young yet for it, although she can work the gadgets around the house and homes in on anything with buttons!

Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

We had two stands at the show and I have to say that attendance wise the show was really impressive when compared to the likes of the Stuff Live/What Hi-Fi show.

I suspect that a lot of companies, both large and small were hesitant in going to the show as it was the first one.

The next show has been confirmed to be around the 11th April 2010 at the NEC and will be around twice the size as well as being over 4 days.

HTH

Amazingly out of the 9 shows we ran, 4 of them had competition winners in the audience, which makes me think that they sent out invites to competition winners so that people could see you really can win the competition to encourage everyone to keep entering.

Re: Gadget show - 17-19th April NEC

I think I'll probably go to this next year what with it finally being a decent tech show that isn't London/South-centric. It certainly sounds like it was a lot better than the Stuff Live show at Excel last November which was truly awful and a complete rip-off.
