Manchester Home Entertainment Show this weekend!

Going to try and make this show as I am only local and I enjoyed it last year. Half price admission tickets can be downloaded here:- http://www.practicalhi-fi.net/halfpriceshowcard.pdf

Think I paid £6 last year so if things remain the same should work out at £3!!!

Details of the show and exibitors here:- The Home Entertainment Show 2008 - Renaissance Hotel Manchester

Re: Manchester Home Entertainment Show this weekend!

After 3 consecutive years attendance, I gave last year a miss because it was getting very samey and boring with fewer big demonstrations each year.

Might give it another try tomorrow though.

Re: Manchester Home Entertainment Show this weekend!

When these shows are on it would be an ideal time for forum members in the given area who are going to arrange to meet up

Thinks some members got together for the Bristol show last year but not sure. I think its a great idea of yours and look forward to you arranging one for the Manchester Show next year

Re: Manchester Home Entertainment Show this weekend!

I went today.
JVC HD-1 projector available for £1999. bargain!

I saw a demo of the new Sony HW10. Quite a machine for £1600, and pretty much silent in operation.
I'd say the JVC still has slightly better blacks, but the Sony doesn't have the over saturated colours of the JVC and is loads quieter.

I'd say this will be the AV bargain of 2008/9.

One other thing that caught my eye was Atacama furniture upto half price on some models.

Could be worth the £3 entry for a bargain.

Re: Manchester Home Entertainment Show this weekend!

Was at the show today and was impressed by the Totem range of speakers. Some of the other speakers I liked included the Dynaudio ?Excite12,Tannoy Revolution and the mission setup with Quad amp/cd player. There was a pair of floorstanders from JBL which sounded nice as well, couldnt listen to the standmounts since they werent working.

That was a complete show stopper don't you think. Almost walked right past it as it looked so insignificant! Its going to take 5 - 10 years before that filters down to TV that the average person can afford. Dont know if you talked to the guy, but it was playing standard def video! Imaging what it would have been like with Hi Def

Not as good an event as last year, but i believe practical hi fi made more this year than last as more people buying at the show even though there were less bums on seats this year.

Did you see the Tannoy Prestige speakers, looked like something out of an antiques shop! Sounded good though - didnt ask how much!

Sounded OK with certain music, but yes they could have been better in some respects! However, as you say the "Coffins" looked dreadful

Was that the one behind closed doors that you needed a ticket for? Went back just after 4pm Sunday as it was busy eariler - they had all gone home and shut up shop

Was impressed with the upscaling abilities of some of their TV's. I dont know if you realised but all the screens on the right as you walk in the room were fed an SD signal!!! Had me fooled
