When's the next show in the UK?

Since bristol, Ive heard of nothing further.

Anyone know of the next show/s - is there a calendar of events for the year?

Also, in general what is the best/biggest show of the year?

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

London Park Inn is very much hifi and 2 channel with some AV thrown in. Will easily only take an afternoon to get around.

The International Consumer show is new for 2008, so it could be great or it could be bad, we just don't know yet.

The What HiFi and Stuff show is well established, although its moving venue this year (formally held at Novotel). Usually a good mix of 2 channel and AV with a gadget show as well.

All really depend on the exhibitors so have a look at the listings before hand to get an idea of who will be at the show.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

£20 for entrance to the What Hi Fi show this year. That's very bad for a show with the only big name appearing is Sony. The rest are small retail outlets with tiny stands.

The Germans get the IFA for £7, and see a greater exhibition in a venue ten times the size of Excel. All the big names are there taking up half a hall.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Yeah, the What HiFi and Stuff show looks to be struggling to attract anything half decent. And to be honest that price is far to much in my opinion. I know there are quite a few big names not bothering. I doubt we will be covering it for the forums.

As for IFA, looks like being a great show this year and we will be there producing content for the forums, so look out for the videos if you can't make the event.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Yep, I'm now having 2nd thoughts on the Whathifi show. Not only the price, but location (takes longer for me to get to), floor plan (just one floor, so no dedicated "demo rooms"?), and lack of big names.

Me and a couple of mates who make the trip up to London yearly will have to discuss this further. Yes it's a good excuse to have a day off work for a jolly, but if we're only going to spend an hour or so checking everything out of interest, it may not be worth it.

HI
If you are driving to the London Sound and Vision Show at the Park Inn in London on the 27-28th September, you must take a look at www.laybyecafe.co.uk I think it's worth a look in these dificult economic times.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

What Hi-fi was a shambles last year - very few mainstream stands, except Sony and a couple of others. £20 this year is pretty steep.....!

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Looking forward to the Heathrow London Park Inn "London Sound & Vision show"
Was not able to make it last year. I think it is only at the Park Inn, they use to have a second show at the Renaissance. But they decided to split them for some reason.

Yes this show has alot of 2 channel Hi-end hi-fi systems. Even if 2 channel is not your first choice I would still recommend a visit; quite simply some of the best sounding hi-fi you are likely to ever hear. 'Absolute Sounds' will be there will their lovely Krell, Audio Research, Sonus Faber and other exotic kit
Price looks reasonable £12 on the door although you can discounted tickets for £8. They have also reduced the carpark to £6.
All in all a good day out.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Well just got back from the Park Inn hotel show at Heathrow (London Sound & Vision)
As expected predominately two channel hi-fi which was fine as that is what I wanted and expected.
I would also add that the word ‘Vision’ was a marketing tool to appeal to a wider audience as I did not see one AV/Visual component on demo. (apart from the odd LCD/plasma being used for advertising)

Have to say overall I was disappointed as there were not many dealers there. The main one was there as usual this being Absolute Sounds (giving their as always good demos and talks)
The other suites where the kit is usually demonstrated were worrying few and far between. One side of a long corridor with suites in use the other side none in use. Previous years it was packed both sides as well as having the first floor with the same amount both sides. This was also coupled with the Renaissance hotel down the road being in on the act as well, which is no longer the case.
I hadn’t been for a year and to honest I wonder if I will bother from now on. I know times are hard for some but I really was let down by the lack of content there.
Very little in the way of accessories, lots of vinyl but only two (literally) rows of CD’s

Plus points: Absolute Sounds demos, some of the other rooms (can’t remember their names), coffee was reasonable at a £1

Negative points: Lacked anything new. No Ken Kessler (I know some may say that is a positive), very few dealers there. Chord (Electronics) demo was surprisingly weak. Not sure if they were demoing some kind of new wireless unit. Needless to say for what was probably £8K+ it didn’t sound great…

Shame.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Hi mr.

I have to totally agree. This year was bad! Infact, probably the worst yet and I will not be going again for a long long time. Over-priced (& thats with the vip card) and lacking in show pieces

And I spent nearly 1.5 hrs on M25 for my trouble. I think the 00's golden age of this show has now passed. They need to take a break for a few years when there are some truely new products on the market and start again. I found this years event a total let down

This show had F all to do with 'visual' and to say it did was a blantant lie. I think they have cut their own throats this time...!

Kindest Rgds

CH

The only thing I wanted to see was the new PS-Audio Duet or Quintet power conditioner which is supposed to be brilliant! To the piont Sony have apparently decided to use this new product to demostrate all there new products, and Sony don't do things lightly.... AND IT WASN'T BLOODY THERE!!!! ARRRRR!!!!!

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Interestingly I was looking for Power Conditioning units. Again previous years there were loads of these sort of products. I even walked around the whole of the hotel wondering if I had missed a section and the map suggested that there were two further wings but these were not in use.
Is it is a shame. It looks like things have taken a step for the worse again, when Hi-Fi News hosted it was pretty good, now its just poor.
I did get 2 magazines (Hi-fi+ & Hi-Fi World) for my trouble but still not enough to make up for the disappointment.

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Hi Their , Folks .. Well I went to the London sound and vison show at heathrow and found it not to bad it's less of the commersioall products and more down to the real side of Hi-Fi it would have been nice to see Arcam and Denon there as they both deal with the highend of the market . The accsessiores were good but not great .

I also went to the What Hi-Fi show last year and found it crap crap crap...

I have gone each year and paid I think at the most around £10 or £12 pounds now they are asking for £20 to get in and Hammersmith was alot easier for me to get to the show and cheaper on the underground now it's on the other side of london and £20 well I think they have just lost another cutomer .

More and more stands were gone last year Arcam had a crappy little stand down stairs only back in 2005 show or 06' show they had a large room and they had all 9 mono blocks on show that was great and Denon had a large room. All the accsories were gone as well last year the What Hi-fi show.

I have also been going to the one in heathrow and have been a great customer of Merlin Cables whom use to be at the What Hi-Fi show for quite a few years . One of the guys at the merlin stand told me that What Hi-Fi wanted £4k for the three days and the heathrow show only wantted £1k !! £4k is alot of money for a small company and they told me that they will neaver be doing anotner What Hi-Fi show I had the same news from quite a few ohter companys .

I'm not sure but I may just not bother this year with the what hifi and just stick to the heathrow show in furture ..... I do feel that it should be kept in one building it far easier for people to get around . There should of been more speaker manufactures at the heathrow show .

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

I have never been to the What Hi-Fi show and doubt I ever would as I have found the Heathrow show deals mainly with the more specialist manufacturers, which is more to my liking.

I just found it a big disappointment, my 4th visit in 5/6 years.
Two visits have been great and two have been poor.
I am surprised at your remark of the accessories. Apart from vinyl there was a tiny amount of CD's. Yes Merlin were there, Townsend with their isolation platforms. But apart from that nothing else. Other years have had whole large rooms crammed with stuff.
Maybe its the 'credit crunch' (how I hate that phrase!)
A guy I spoke from one of the larger dealers there said that the top high end kit was selling ok, but the rest of the 'lower' high end were struggling a bit.
Just a comment and obviously no proof to it.

I think also the fact that there was very little of anything new there.
The last time I went was when HD-DVD & Blu-Ray were there battling it out.
Lots of demos on SIM2 projectors. Again nothing, not actual AV what so ever.
I have to say I was generally a bit shocked by the lack of dealers there.
Oh well maybe a couple of years time it will get back to being a proper hi-fi show...

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

It always amazes me that the UK cannot come up with one big show each year to rival the likes of IFA. How hard can it be to get all the majors there in one huge venue like the NEC and open it to the public? The UK market must be the best established in Europe so why can't we have an organiser (not a magazine or dealership etc) who could put something like this together once a year.

I would have thought an organisation who are independant of the industry and it's politics would be able to get everyone together, bang some heads and make them realise that a huge event like that would be really popular as the consumer electronics market continues to grow and grow, even during what is supposed to be a downturn.

Sorry, rant over.

BTW, Bristol is still by far the best UK show IMHO

Re: When's the next show in the UK?

Hi , On the subject of accessories when I attended the What Hi-Fi show back in 2005 and even 2006 (when I had money) on the first floor they had a whole lot of accessions this includes Merlin cables , Qed , Chord , Townsend ,van derhull and much much more in fact that was one of the mains reasons I went to these shows not only I would see the latest AV or 2-channel equipment to drull on from your favourite brand or any of the bigs names I always came out with my wallet out of cash and a bag full of goodies and at that time back in 2005 I spent around £ 350 or so on mains cables boy I could not wait to come home and try them out ..but that was the case the same went for the London Sound and yes vision show there was never any real AV at the London show but some dam good 2-channel stuff and loads of accessories now all you get is two stands full of records which I love and a small section of mofi cd's and that's it what happened???.

They have to sort this out and that's not doing it by charging £20 and placing the show the other side of London are they mad ??? I to also can not stand this ‘’credit crunch’’ saying it makes me cringe to the teeth each time the media states it …It a bloody recession for gods sake just say it !!! he…he ..
