Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I thought it might be a good idea for folks on here who plan on attending the show this year to share info about when are going, possibly with a view so that a meeting could be arranged for those that wish to do so.

I am flying down from Edinburgh on Friday morning and plan on attending the show on Friday and Saturday. I have got a room sorted on a nearby hotel for Friday and Saturday night so it would be good to meet up a with a few folk from here either during the show or if you are staying in Bristol perhaps after the show for a bite to eat and a few drinks and discuss what we've seen and heard at the show.

I fly back up on the Sunday afternoon so may have a bit of time on the Sunday if I missed anything.

If there is anyone who would like to meet up then let me know.

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

Well Im flying over at a crazy hour on Saturday morning from Dublin to spend the whole day there.

Ive never been to to the show before and am looking forward to it, thought I would just travel within the one day, so the money saved on Accomodation would be spent on some "goodies"

As Im really not too technically gifted or hugely experienced in this area, but trying to learn Im not sure if Im the kind of person people would like to get into discussions with . I will make a visit to the avforums stand to say hello, but would definitlely be a bit embarassed to get into a discussion on something technical. (jesus Im 31 and sound like a 16 year old)

But:
I would some myself up like a Magpie who loves watching movies.
i.e. I like shiny things that let me watch my movies

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I'm hoping to get there on Friday for most of the day.

I've not been to the Bristol show for a while so I'm looking forward to it, although I should be getting rid of equipment rather than going there to be tempted by lots of new goodies.

Does anyone know if the centre of Bristol is still a building site, may save us a drive into town and back out to the park n' ride if it is

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

scottie50 - parking in the centre is still a nightmare. I'd recommend a "Park & Ride" or take motorways to Cribbs Causeway, then the A4018 to the Downs area, then a 1 or 43 bus down Whiteladies Road to the centre. I plan to enjoy it on the Friday.

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I live in bristol and Im planning on going friday to have a look round to what goodies I can put in my Cinema Room (Bomb Site)! This is going to be my first visit to the show, is there a good chance to pick up some bargains?!

Would be good to see some of you there but Im still new to the hobby so not sure my input would be interesting lol

Looking forward to it now

As far as parking in town, save your pennies for new toys as parking is at a premium and like rocking horse S**t! Id say the park and ride would be the best bet unless you have a brother who lives 2 mins away like me hehe

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I've visited almost every year & always found somewhere to park for free or cheaply (£5/6) for the day in a multistorey.

Once again I plan on going this year (bit of a Hi-Fi show freak). Saturday is the favoured day. I don't think 1 day will be sufficient once more as closing time is to early together with the ever increasing exhibitors. As travelling distance is an issue I doubt very much Sunday would be included in my plans :-(

The organisers have laid on a P&R again this year... just off the M32 junction 1. It takes you straight to the hotel. Details are on their website.

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I have visited the show for the past four years (I think) and usually on the Sunday. Parking has been ok but then again I've never got there too late - too much to see and do!

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I will be going to this event on the friday, never been before and I am looking forward to it. The last AV show I went to was the Manchester Home Cinema Show, I spent four and a half grand on goodies that day when I had no intention of buying anything before I got there, I will try to resist this time but will be taking my credit card with me just in case

There's far to much to see if your serious about actually listening to equipment and asking questions (not forgetting the quick lunch break). There is also organised demonstrations to pass your time too, don't forget AVForums , I did terrible on the last visit with the Playstation (Xbox?).

If your one of those who just look at equipment, dart from room to room, pick up a ton load of brochures then a day is more than adequate. I see many people exiting the venue on the day so there must be a fair amount of just casual onlookers whom just whip in a few places & go.

There's no ticket limit, just turn up.

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I'll be over on the Saturday with 3 friends. We'll be heading out to town in the evening and staying over in a hotel nearby. Probably won't meet up with the forum regulars except in the show, as I'm meeting friends coming down from Cardiff and we're out on the lash

Monitor Audio, Arcam, Living Voice, Linn & Kef I'll certainly be visiting amongst many others

Dan.

Re: Bristol Show 2008 - Who's going and when?

I can see the queue of people waiting to go in from my office window, almost around the corner already.

Anyone going down on Saturday, Great Western Ambulance's (where I work) carpark is open to the public, I think its £1.50 or £2 for all day and its just across the road from the Marriott, on the corner of Castle street and Queen St.
