Re: Home Entertainment Show next weekend - any good?

I've been going for the past 5+ years and it has gone downhill quite a bit. On the HC side Sim2 stopped exhibiting a few years ago, Denon haven't done live demo's for 3 years and Sony's projector demo was rubbish last year - I waited 2 hours just to watch <5 minutes of flashy trailers that made it next to impossible to properly assess the Pearl.

JVC are attending this year to show off the HD1, so I'm going to give it one last chance.

If you're into hi-fi, then there is a lot more to see (The show is about 80% hifi / 20% HC). However, the rooms are very small and can get very cramped, so it may be best to turn up early.

Can you just turn up and buy tickets there? If so how much?
Or do you need to buy tickets at all?

Thanks.

Re: Home Entertainment Show next weekend - any good?

Complete waste of time unless you're into Hi-Fi.

Was quite good a few years ago, but last year it was rubbish.
A lot of the big names aren't there anymore and like the others have said the demos were just hopeless.

Last year there was just ONE high def DVD player on demo and it was farcical.
Think it was Samsung or LG and the demonstrator was clueless.

Sony seem to have a dominant (albeit unimpressive) stand with lots of very average LCD Tvs that look no better than you'd see in Curry's!

In years gone by Fujitsu, Panasonic, Pioneer & Optimo DLPs used to steal the show, but think only Pioneer remain (in a very small room).

Recently they sent me a couple of 'half price' tickets which have gone straight in the bin.

Re: Home Entertainment Show next weekend - any good?

Went there today.

Overslept and stuck in traffic for an hour Then spent another hour trying to find a parking space!
Wish it wasn't held in the centre...
To top it off, as soon as I arrived at the door, the fire alarm went off.... grr... and they had to evacuate everyone.

So all in I only had about an hour to see everything. It was alright, nice to see the screens setup properly, quite impressed with the Pioneers.

Didn't like the way the show was organised though. Its like a lot of small rooms, and the sales reps are not very welcoming when you go into their rooms - all of them just kept on chit-chatting & laughing etc. Most of the rooms are empty anyway, the B&W room only had two pairs of speakers and a few chairs that's it!

Are you sure you went into the rooms ? the b&w room had 2 systems set up , the chap in there gave a good demonstration of their new 600 range, although i would have liked to have heard a b&w home cinema system

Yes I did go into the room, but it was within the last hour of the show so they might have packed up?
The B&W chap (only one guy!) was occupied anyway and too busy to deal with me, just all other chit-chatting sales reps.

Chit-chatting sales reps annoy me too, so I now avoid visiting the Bristol Show on the Friday as it's a combined trade/consumer day.
