What HiFi? Sound + Vision 2006

http://www.whathifishow.co.uk/
3 - 5 November, Novotel London West, Hammersmith, London.

I've never been to one of these sort of shows before. What are the chances that I
might get some good deals on kit (i.e. better than the internet)?

I am planning a whole HT setup - LCD TV, AV receiver, Sky HD, surround speakers, projector and screen. Plus all the associated bits'n'pieces.

My current plan it so buy some of the kit online (e.g. Sony KDL40X2000 and sky HD) and the rest from a dealer (maybe Seven Oaks?) who will install and calibrate etc.

Thanks,
Ian

PS. I am flying down from Edinburgh, so anything I buy would need to be shipped.

Re: What HiFi? Sound + Vision 2006

I don't know about the sound and vision show specifically - usually these shows are organised by a dealer and there is a flat rate discount on anything bought at the show (10-15% usually)

The savings are best on equipment that is usually held at RRP in stores and online - all the high-end dealer-centric brands.

For items frequently discounted online, there are usually no savings to be made (although there are the odd special offer dotted about like ex-dem or second hand units).
Worth actually giving the organisers a ring as they will know what the story is.

If you're looking for a full setup all in one go, you might be better off going to an independent dealer for all of it - that way they'll de responsible for the interactions of the kit and your room as a whole.

On the other hand if you're a tweaker like me - you might want to cherry pick all the best bits worldwide and have fun setting it all up yourself.

Anyway - after avoiding the Manchester show because of the reports on here, I may well make the trip darn sarf to this one. At least there's a few projector companies showing.

Re: What HiFi? Sound + Vision 2006

Micro Anvika has been confirmed as the official retailer for the Best of Stuff part of the show. There is not an official retailer for the What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision section of the show, however I know some of the manufactures do distribute through Micro Anvika and therefore there may be the odd deal around.

I would suggest discussing the product you are interested in with the Manufacturer and asking them where your closest dealer is. That way you don't need to worry about shipping it back to Edinburgh.
