my highlights of the home cinema show, manchester- blue-ray! :-)

hi, my highlights of the show where:

1.the samsung blue-ray dvd player bdp1000 (£850 at the show), think it was connect to 50inch pioneer plasma by hdmi with aeon flux playingin 1080p.
pq was stunning, new style dvd menu system fantastic. best pq i ever seen on plasma.

2.sony vpl-vw100 projector connected to a european blue-ray player, i watched spiderman 2 from about 6 foot away on a 10 to 12 foot wide screen in 1080p.
pq fantastic, just like in my vue cinema. best i have seen

3. yamaha's new ysp-1000 digital sound projector speaker (one speaker in the centre front with 42 mini speakers inside creates dts digital sound using reflection technology).
so no messy cables, no speakers all round the room. very tidy solution.
very good sound in dts. could hear the sorround sound from the rear very well.

4. mordauntshort speaker demo, i think the best quality speakers for the money. fantastic sound!

the downsides of the show where:
1.£6 entry fee!
2. too much emphasis on audio, i want more on visual products especially pj's?

anyone else go?

I thought the Samsung Blu-Ray demo was incredibly underwhelming to be honest I walked away wondering if it was set up right. The Sony Pearl demo was good although a bit "safe" and it was nice to see the Fujitsu 58 series in action finally.

Gutted Panasonic werent there but it didnt stop me ordering A 50PH9 when I got home

First and probably last time I will go I thought it was a rip off at £6 in and far too much emphasis on audio for me....

Have to agree the Samsung blu-ray was quite poor imo not worth it over sd. The computer fed Samsung displays looked much better. Impressed with their displays for the money will look out for them with HD-DVD.

Fujitsu's were stunning the closest I've seen to pristine from a flat panel and HD but maan were they pricey. Better than the Pearl (although admittedly smaller) but then again the projector was alot less. Pearl looked great overall but again not sure about blu-ray would have liked the colours more vibrant but everything else about it was great.

Wasn't especially impressed with any surround setups I thought they all had too much distortion or colouration or boom would like to hear one thats as clean and uncoloured as alot of the stereo setups (bet it'll costs a bomb) am tempted to go 2.1 for movies now, will see though what I can extract from mine first. Where was Audiolab and Mission I couldn't find 'em.

Best sounds I heard came from the turntable rigs very enjoyable, Roksan's especially but again mega money (how much was that cabling...lol). Glad I finally heard Naim excellent just thought they sound right musically very close second to the turntable rigs I thought. Quad's electrostatics were just ok was expecting quite a bit more from these. Disappointed at the Cyrus demo again, last year it was all bass this year it was a digital sound yet I keep reading great things. Nad had their master series dvd hooked up to their stereo integrated with some PSB towers and liked the pink floyd dvd demo, clean, uncoloured, musical and natural. Marantz's two channel rig was good with Mordaunt Shorts top speakers better than last years. Their dv9600 looked good but didn't think much of the sound (SR7 or 8001) with Genies just not big enough (or ditto rest of av setups) would like to hear with full size speakers. All the other two channel rooms I liked alot....alot.

Disappointed at the lack of projectors especially at the budget end. Why was there only one projector at the show??? Where were the other big names.

Anyway roll on next year hopefully it'll be full on HD by then.

Anyone know if Fujitsu, displayed their 1080p screens (anywhere in the UK tbh)?

Had a PDS-4242 for years now and am thinking of upgrading to SkyHD in the next few months. Wanted to stick with Fujitsu, so if anyone has any info on UK release dates etc. would be much apprecited.

All I could find was :

http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/09/17...1080p-plasmas/

and

http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools

tha later says a date of Nov '06 for the 60" and March 07 for the 50.

If I can manage to get some samples and get them to the What hifi show on time, you can see them at Hammersmith next weekend.... No promises at the moment though. I would say Jan for the 37/65" and the 50" in late spring. Price is anyone's guess but expect them to "compliment" the existing Plasmavision range not complete with it...... i.e. they will be satisfyingly expensive and in short supply. If your impressed with them at Hammersmith, order one, the waiting list is likely to be long......

BTW, our Fujitsu AVIAMO screens have nothing to do with Hitachi as far as I am aware.
