Both will make a huge difference. I have 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD in my Macbook Pro, it flies along and boots up in less than 20 seconds.

Strange if it doesn't, as I have an iPhone 5 which I bought on contract with Orange and moved over to EE. So my phone has had both Orange and EE nano SIMs in it, with no unlocking required.

the ones with the retaining clip that hold the top of the phone in place will swivel 90°, those are the ones that have no material coating on the inside of the holder
