satallite tv on line

Hi

May be there is a thread already on this but I could not find it.
I have been looking at using my pc to view satallite programs via the internet. There are a few programs that allow you to do this at a very reasonable one off cost.
Has anyone tried them?
Are they worth the money and what is the quality of sound and picture.

Any advice or recommandations will be welcome.
Thanks guys.

Re: satallite tv on line

Firstly there's no need to pay - but be careful on nasties (malware etc. on some sites)
A quick google will find you plenty of sites that stream TV.
Quality is at best very poor IMHO

Examples
Worldwide Television streams.
ChannelChooser 2.0 - Watch online live TV-channels, Movies & Videos
Eight Best Sites to Stream TV - ZePy

Re: satallite tv on line

Well the people selling the software advertise it as been 100% legal, I can only go by their adverts and description.

Re: satallite tv on line

It's all probably on the grey side of legal, but this site has been discussed in another section

TVCatchup - Never Miss A Show Again

Tv catchup - kosher?

Re: satallite tv on line

I've been a online subscriber to sky anytime and setanta for some months now.

All I can say is don't bother. The main reason I subscribed in the first place was to view football matches whilst (supposedly) working in the evenings. The quality isn't great, but I didn't really expect it to be. Sometimes the myp2p streams can be better! But if it's a big game or boxing just connecting in the first place can be impossible or you may get lucky and be able to view for a couple of minutes but sure enough it will start buffering.

Just last night I wanted to watch something on the History Channel and I couldn't connect at all so I gave up and went to bed. Well worth £10 a month eh?

Now you may be thinking it could be a bandwidth issue, but I can assure you it isn't as this has happened on numerous occasions at various locations with very fast connections.

So hopefully this may put you off considering to part with you're hard earned for sky/setanta's poor online service.

Re: satallite tv on line

if anyone is considering this heres a quick try before you buy test thingy
it will indicate the exact quality you will achieve with interweb streaming via tv etc

get a big tub of vaseline/petroleum jelly from your local chemist
liberally apply it to your eyes/glasses/tv screen/projector lens
then place a thick wooly hat on your head (benny from crossroads is your guide here) MAKE SURE YOUR HEARING IS IMPAIRED
lie back and select sky sports !
turn the tv off/pause at crucial moments
voila

A small amount is legal, a much larger portion is in a very grey area and the rest is definitely illegal to use in this country. The large grey area is very similar to the situation with the retransmission of FTA services (such as the BBC) by the cable services in Switzerland where it is legal under Swiss law BUT illegal under International law. The illegal area concerns the transmission of pay TV without payment to the broadcaster. The fully legal area is mainly the dross that exists of online broadcasting.
