call barring
Sorry if this has been covered before but i cant find the exact answer i need.
Have received a letter from Sky saying that one of the digiboxes is not connected, am breaking the terms and conditions etc.
Well they are both connected to the same line all the time.Checked everything was correct ie nothing had come adrift and everything is fine.
Does anyone know if call barring would affect it as my line is constantly barred for outgoing calls except when i make a phone call or go on the net and then i unbar it. I had this call barring to stop massive phone bills which i was getting.
Has anyone had this sort of thing happen to them, and if so what did they do?
Thanks.

As i understand the sky box calls sky every so often check the Ts&Cs it says a fixed and operational phone line, they might say that a barred line is not operational. As the box cant dial out, ring your service provider and ask them.

Thanks for the reply, If thats the case im stuffed.
The reason for the call barring is to stop my son running me huge bills up which in the past has cost me dearly. I dont know how im going to get round it.
The line accepts incoming calls but not outgoing ( apart from 999 )unless i unbar it, so it is operational but not for what sky want to do i expect.
I can prove i have call barring by forwarding them a bill where it states this but i suppose that wont count.

PS you could tell them that it is connected and maybe the modem in the box is faulty! See if they send an engineer or drop it! When he turns up plead ignorance. Or un bar the line hit red button let the box dial out then bar it again you can do this once a week when your son is out to keep sky happy?

Move the phone out of his reach if he is small or make him pay for the calls if he is bigger.

Thanks for your advice.
This second sub was done a bit different to most peoples.
I had 1 sky digibox originally which was free. Then, a long time ago the only way you could have a second box was to pay full price for it so it cost loads, if i remember rightly about £300 ish plus installation which i had done by an independent installer approved by sky.
So now i had two digiboxes and had to pay full price for one( top package) and the other one was on the lower package (everything except movies and sports) . Then i heard about the mirror subs so phoned sky up and they said i could go on that and the other box would be on the same package which was great as now 2 boxes were on the top package but for less money per month. I changed to this mirror sub last october, this is the first time they have contacted me. I only got a letter informing me that the accounts were now merged, and what the new monthly price would be, after i phoned and got it altered to the mirror sub, I have not signed anything since the original contract. Dont know if this clears me or not.

it only has to be connected for 12 months to get that discount after then its up to you i would forget about it if you are over the 12 month minimum contract.

changing to a mirror has nothing to do with your contract, you can change the package as much as you want IIRC And if you paid full price for the second box they have noright to insist that it is connected to your phoneline.

Do you input a pre-fix to unbarr your calls? If so, you can tell your box to do this as well in the installer menu (Services-4-0-1-Select). Just as long as your son doesn't know how to get in to this meu, as he will find out your code.

"shawkins002" is correct. If you have a code that temporarily unbars it, put it in the menu and your problem will be solved. This also works for people whose number is "ex directory". Simply add the 1470 prefix in the menu.
Of course your son will now be able to order movies, pizzas and items from QVC!
(If it were my son, I'd chain him up. Much less hassle).

Thanks for that tip.
After it has temporarily unbarred it, will it bar it again automatically?
Fortunately he has not shown any interest in ordering anything off the interactive, as long as they dont start selling cars i should be o.k!!
Oh the joys of being a parent!!

At least you got a letter - Sky just delved into my bank account and took the money without letting me know - an extra £26. I rang them and rang them and kept getting fobbed off. I then asked to be put through to a supervisor otherwise I would write to watchdog and tell them that the mighty Sky TV had broken the terms and conditions of the Direct debit guarantee. This clearly states I would be notified of any difference in the amount at least 10 working days before they took the money.
5 minutes later I was talking to a supervisor with my account credited by the £26 plus 1 months free sub.
All I wanted to do was explain that the engineer had not set the box up correctly when he instaled it and that I should not be liable to pay it. I was then offered the Sky+ loyalty scheme of no extra tenner.
I am on witheld number as well as ex directory...
