Is this motorised system a good deal ?

I've got rid of Sky but would like to get a system that can get plenty of fta stuff.......preferably premiership and championship football ,films, music etc.
I noticed this from an eBay shop and wondered if it was a reasonably priced deal.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=013
£500 would be absolute max to spend including cards ( Missus would kill if she thought it was £5 !!! )
I live out in the wilds, so dish size is no problem.
I suppose it would be cheaper to source the items needed seperately, but I don't know what I would need altogether.
If anyone can get me a list of the necessary things I need and good retailers I'd be very grateful.
This deal comes with a years subs to a sports channel I believe...Not sure what that's worth ? I notice on the forum that a digitalb card offers similar channels, so perhaps it's the same
I have a scaffolding pole securely concreted into the ground which is vertical, so I can use that to attach the dish.
It is approx 30 yards from the house because we are surrounded with trees and the pole is just outside them, as is our sky freesat dish.
Would that be a problem ( The distance that is ) from the house to the dish.
It is a South facing position .
Thanks

I'd go for this and forget about the card unless you want 'guaranteed' footy

You can get signal amplifiers if your worried about the distance from the dish to your house. How far are the trees away from the dish, height etc

The trees are south of the house and are probably in the region of 50' to 60' high.........A dish on the house is not an option because you can't get a clear view of the sky from there at all. The pole has a clear southern view beyond the trees
Does anyone know or bought from the retailer advertising the equipment........They are in Swansea and only 25 miles away, so if they are OK they'd be ideal for me.
I would like something that records as well as we don't even have a VCR anymore...............But I would like the footy, more Championship than Premiership if that's possible .

Re: Is this motorised system a good deal ?

The price of that set up isn't bad at all really, considering that you will need the following (and I assume it's all included in that setup):

Dish (£50)
Motor (£60)
LNB (£20)
Receiver (£95)
Cable (~£25)
F Connectors (~£3)
Supersport 12months (£190)

You say you've got a pole already installed in the ground, so wouldn't need any wall mountings. I've included a rough price of the best items I would go for... This totals up to somewhere in the region of £440.

One thing you might want to think about though, is that you will only get the bog standard cable, and since your dish will be a fair distance from the house, you would need good quality cable. I would say you'd be better off with WF125/CT125.

Also, the dish they will give you might not get the best gain. I know the Gibertini dish is a quality dish, and they have a 1m dish (my 85cm dish works as well as a standard 1m dish), which could work much better than other 1m dishes.

So you need to decide what you're after.

Good luck

Re: Is this motorised system a good deal ?

I think you'd be better off getting all separate, as packages often include some cheap (and also often of less quality) products. I would def. spend my money on a proper good receiver with great expansion possibilities, and the Technomates give great value for money as you can patch these (i.e. put on special developed software which opens a whole new world). Don't forget that watching channels without a valid subscription is illegal... Also get a good quality dish (as someone else mentions above) as a smaller quality dish may have the same gain as a larger worse quality one. Have it fixed until you are ready to add a USALS motor as they are dead easy to set up and gives you endless hours of fun and even a greater choice.

Setup info:

If you get a amplifier, the signal won't necessary get any better when it arrives at your receiver as noise also gets amplified, so it all comes down to what signal quality that comes out at the LNB! After 20 meters of running cable you start getting noticeable loss so a better quality cable is recommended at these lengths (i.e. 20 meters+)

A rule of thumb says the distance from the obstacle to the dish should be 2-3 longer than the obstacle is high. If you get a motor, do remember that the arc is lower at each extremity so less obstacles...

If you decide to set the system up yourself there are some excellent forums to help you out (satellites.co.uk is one) where you are guaranteed to get it up an running in no time...
