Humax HDCI 2000 - update and download problems

I have been trying to download software update via download program WDN4OAK.

First I bought a usb A to A lead to connect to my HDCI2000. Didn't work .

Then I found out usb isn't enabled on this model. Strange this when this is 2008 and hardly any new pc's or laptops have a serial port, all have usb. !!

Next I bought a usb to serial adaptor and a null modem rs232 lead.

Windows xp automatically installed the usb to serial adaptor. So I thought great, I can download via WDN4OAK and update Humax. But no, the WDN4OAK program still cannot 'see' the usb to download. All it sees is com port 1 thro to 4. I was hoping the adaptor would create an interface to 'see' the usb to download to HDCI 2000. Either I am daft as a brush, very unlucky or it just ain't going to work. [/FONT]

I have all but given up ! Can anybody help !

You need to be using a "Null Modem" cable. The Rx & Tx pins are crossed over in the cable. See cable details at Humax site downloads.

The OP already has by the sounds of it

"Next I bought a usb to serial adaptor and a null modem rs232 lead."

He'll need to use an adaptor as the PC/Laptop hasn't a serial port.
Vista can sometimes give problems with these adaptors and if the drivers weren't supplied help can usually be found on the net

Sorry overlooked that a null modem cable was being used, agreed the Usb adaptors can cause problrms with some software.
