strange hotbird reception, need advice

Hi there,

I had a small size dish directed towards hotbird, I had to change it to a bigger size to be able to have a better reception of some of the channels I was interested in.

The engineer did this for us today, now it seems like something strange is happening.

I can receive +500 channels but not all that is available, including those that I was interested

What is happening is like this:

I want to get IRIB1, IRIB2 that is set on 12437 H 27500 3/4.
When I enter these in the tuner box, and enter Search, it finds channels for me that are on 11566 H 27500 3/4!

I have never seen this before. It seems like it automatically changes the frequency I enterred.

I don't know whether this is a fault of my receiver (Nokia) or something about the dish or the LNB. I know I had no problams getting these channels before replacing the dish.

Any suggestions and advice is most appreciated.

Many Thanks

Farhad

I suspect that he has also changed the LNB to a newer type than you had before, so you will have to alter the LNB type in the Tuning Menu to Universal in order for the correct frequencies to be shown.

Re: strange hotbird reception, need advice

Thanks for this.
I think you are right, however I had to change the receiver as it was an old one with a very old software and with no manual, causing many problems like this.

I got a Fortek Star Beta from Maplin for £35.
It is not a great device but does the job for me.

Now I have another problem though!

There appears to be interferance between the receiver and the digital tv. I realised I couldn't get some of the digital free view channels. I tried moving the antena but does not make any difference. As soon as I disconnect the stellite receiver power or the satellite cable it works (i.e. interferance is gone). It doesn't matter whether the receiver is connected to the tv or not.

I tried to see if it gets better by changing the location of the receiver, it seems like in a distance (as far as the cables allow) the interferance is reduced, but it is quite tricky to find the angle where this happens.

Are there any devices that eliminate interferance?
Any advice?

Thanks again.

Farhad

Re: strange hotbird reception, need advice

Try changing the UHF ouput channel of the Fortec, it is set to CH38 by default and may be interferring with the digital channels. There is a button on the remote control labelled UHF so press this and enter another number between CH21 and CH69 ( try Ch69 first then work your way backwards until the interference disappears). If the channel will not alter by remote then you will have to go to Main Menu -User Setup -TV Setting -RF Modulator and change the channel there.

Re: strange hotbird reception, need advice

Adrian,

Thanks for this, I changed the channels from 69 to 21 but didn't work, I even changed the audio mhz but no difference.

Is there any other tricks?

and in any case, I have put an extension for the satellite cable so that I can easily connect and disconnect it when I want to watch satellite or TV, I think I can live with this, but can TV also live with it? I mean is this interferance going to cause permanent damage to the TV reception system in long term?

Thanks again for your help.
