help for a baffled HD freeSat buyer

I was wondering if someone could help, I think I might be looking for the holly grail but if I can get close would be appreciated!

I don't really want to pay the £50 odd pounds to sky for the occassional football match so was wondering if there is an alternative. I have been reading around and I think what I want is the following:

1. freesat HD
2. a recorder if possible
3. access to Thai TV Global Network for the wife that broadcasts free on Hotbird 4 Frequency 12207 MHz
4. Generally a system that can access the largest range of free stations!

Money is not really the key but of course a consideration but would probably pay upto £400-500 for the right setup (esp. if it keeps the wife happy!)

I have read alot around the subject but for once am completely baffled as to what the right solution is.

Many thanks in advance from a baffled ex-sky subscriber:-)

Re: help for a baffled HD freeSat buyer

Freesat PVR receivers are unlikely to support motorised satellites, as they will need to permanently point at 28.2/28.5 to receive EPG information (such as schedule changes etc.) - which wouldn't be possible if they were fed from a motorised dish that could move to other satellites. I suspect it is unlikely they will support multiple LNBs or multiple dishes as well initially - I suspect the first generation freesat boxes will, like Sky boxes, be designed as single dish, single LNB (though Quad/dual output) devices designed to be just pointed at one satellite and forgotten about.

Thus if you want a full freesat box (with PVR and freesat EPG support) AND Thai TV from a different satellite, you may be best off thinking of two boxes and two dishes (or possibly a single dish with two LNBs, one feeding the freesat box, one the receiver for Thai TV)

If, however, you don't want the freesat EPG or PVR facilities then other receivers with dual dishes, motorised dishes etc. would be an option.

Re: help for a baffled HD freeSat buyer

It is strongly rumoured (from a source within Humax on another forum) that the first freesat HD PVR (due around September) from Humax will support multi satellites so we will just have to wait and see
