USALs- Need Help

I know USALS is supposed to do everything automatically but it won't work for me!

I have a motorised dish with a 36v jack. (arc set up OK)
I have just bought a positioner box to go with my Passion receiver.

The DiSEqC 1.2 bit seems to work OK- all controlled from the receiver. But I have to find the position manually for a particular satellite. The TP signal is seen and I store that position. I could do this with all satellites but I know that there must be a better way!

The receiver has a USALs option but the positioner box does not mention USALs only DiSEqC1.2. However i thought that the calculations were done in the receiver.

Questions
1) Should USALs work after putting in my Lat and Long.
2) Do I have to locate some satellites first using DeSEqC ?
3) If USALs can't be used can I scan all the satelliets using DiSEqC1.2?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: USALs- Need Help

USALS should work after putting in your LON/LAT settings, but it does need to be bang on the money, both dish installation & LON/LAT Settings.. good place to get the lon/lat settings is multimap. Just type in your postcode & it will give it for that street.

I usually start by scanning for birds with USALS, then switch to Diseqc for finer tunning. USALS dont work to well with a dreambox either, so there could be issues with outher STB (worked fine with my Fortec though)

Re: USALs- Need Help

Thanks for the reply.
Are you using a DiSEqC motor directly? I am using a 36v jack and ALSAT motor box. I have come around to thinking that this will not work with USALS because the reed pulses are not linear with degrees.
For now I am using positions I have stored in the receiver and once set up it works OK

Re: USALs- Need Help

If I remember correctly, you can only use diseqc with an actuator. Usals only works with standard motors... I could be wrong, but pretty sure that's how it is...
