Pro Sieben HDTV falters

Looks like they can't reach critical mass fast enough for their shareholders.

ProSiebenSat.1 Media, the German television group, is to stop its high-definition television (HDTV) services for the time being. Next Saturday, the group will switch off its channels Pro Sieben HD and Sat 1 HD, which have broadcast the programmes of Sat 1 and Pro Sieben in high-definition format via cable, satellite and DSL since October 2005.

The company says that these services have not developed as hoped, as only around 150,000 households are currently able to receive these channels. ProSiebenSat.1 will not begin broadcasting HDTV programmes again until 2010, when it will have a third digital satellite transponder and thus its own HD capacity.
