I've heard that ITV are to launch an HD channel soon.

Does anyone have any info on when this is likely to be available, and whether the F1 Championship will be shown on it?

May sound sad, but this has a diredct bearing on whether I get Sky+, of go for SkyHD

This would have direct bearing on getting Sky back again or sticking with freeview.

i know that the german provider premiere shows the f1 and i think they have hd channels on their packages so i would look into that m8

You won't need SKY hardware or a SKY subscription to watch ITVHD when it finally arrives and it actually offers the sport in HD.

True, and ITV1HD was on cable a while back.

Also FreeviewHD is coming but not for a while yet, I personally have SkyHD and would like to see the ITV1HD channel on the EPG sooner rather than later.

As for F1 in HD, I can't see why Bernie can't stick his hands in his pocket and bring possibly the richest sport in the world into HD.

That's £49 per month that can go into new cinema gear instead of a Sky sub.

I have to admit in the forefront of technology in which F1 sits, and the amount of money lying around the paddock, I am surprised that it's not already shown in HD. I am glad though that it hasn't gone to Sky, as it would no doubt be ruined by excessive advertising and annoying 'bleepy' banners sliding all over the screen like on the football. Mind you we will probably get this on ITV before long

I realise that in some countries they don't have the HD kit, but surely this can be supplied by the F1 budget or ITV outside broadcast units??

I'm sure there must be good reason for all of this

Several sources in the last few days seem to be agreed that there are three upcoming new HD channels fairly imminent.

Namely Sky Sports 3 HD (to cover new golf and other summer HD sports) - supposedly starting from 17 March based on various reasons, FX HD (also said to be slated for March) and ITV HD (now said to be April).

But, as noted above, none of these have actually been confirmed by the channels themselves.

from memory, i think that each host country are responsible for providing the tv coverage of their particular race.

so it would probably nigh on impossible to have a full season of f1 races broadcast in HD (more's the pity, as i think f1 would lend itself to a HD feed)
