What can I do with a communal Hirschmann dish?

Hi all

I've moved into a new apartment block and our rubbish letting agents (L*** Th***) didn't give us much information about the place (they also made loads of mistakes, including letting the previous tenant keep a key to our flat, but that's a different story!)

Anyway, we have discovered that there is a massive satellite dish on the roof. It's got "Hirschmann" on it, pointing somewhere roughly south-east-ish and it looks a bit like this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hirschmann-S...d_sbs_ce_img_5

We have satellite connection sockets in the flat. So I'm wondering - since it's not a typical dish from Sky, what might we get from it? In particular, if I buy a set-top box off eBay or similar and plug it in, would we get some free channels? Or is this dish part of a subscription provider that I don't know of...

All ideas much appreciated. If you think I'll get something out of it then I'll try to find a cheapo box for experimenting with it....

Thanks all

DM

Re: What can I do with a communal Hirschmann dish?

the Hirschmann is just the make so not important,.

pretty much going to be set at 19e ( old sky ) or the top choice 28e ( sky digital )

1st any neighbours you can tap up? ask them, i'd put money on it 1 of them has a sky subscription and that what its conected too!

Failing that FTA digital satellite boxes can be had for not a lot, and would get you all the free channels.

If it is sky , you could get a skybox of ebay and a freeview card from sky 20quid last time i looked into it, and you pretty much get all the freeview channel, plus aload of shoppingtat etc
