Which receiver/system to buy ?

Hey all.

I want to install a motorised system, but am unsure as to the best kit to go for - I mainly want to get FTA + Premiership footy.
I am a novice so would need something easyish to get on with that can be upgraded as time goes by and I get more competent
I would like to have PVRT functionality but thats not a top priority.

I have looked at several bits, namely:
  • A technomate 1500 based full system - cheap (cheerful !!?)
  • A DREAMBOX reciever (no dish) - costly
  • A Triple Dragon reciever (again no dish) - costly

Any advice would be wholeheartedly received, on the above and beyond.....

Thanks in advance.

Re: Which receiver/system to buy ?

Technomate 1500:

Cheap (sub £100), very well supported (2nd only to the Dreambox), very easy to patch, works with virtually all cards (Art/XXX ect), very sensitive tuner (picks up virtually all channels in "blind search"), very fast channel/menu navigation....great receiver, you won't regret buying one.

Dreambox:

You didn't say which model. The DREAMBOX DM 7020 S & the DREAMBOX 7025: Best you can buy, best supported receiver out there, has card sha#ing
capabilities, you need very strong IT skills for these receiver's & they'll take a lot of your spare time.

If i was going to buy a Dreambox and had an HDTV, i would personally wait for the new Dreambox HD receiver (even more expensive).

These day's you really should have your satellite receiver's permanently connected to your pc for constant data/file downloads, via a null modem cable or a USB/Serial adapter & null modem cable if using a laptop.

I personally have a Tm8 1500 & Visionnet cis (crap) hooked up to an 80cm dish for Astra/HB reception only, so i can't advise you on a motorised set-up.

As of today, D+ (Spain), Premier (Germany) & TPS (France) are all "open" with most receiver's (Emulator's) or cam's (Dragon ect), and you will be spoilt for choice as regards to football/xxx/movies......but, things can change very quick in this game, & black screens are alway's around the corner

The best advice i could give to somebody who's just starting out is:

If you really need regular football/sport/movies ect, then take out a sub to Sky/Canal + or whoever as there is no guarantee's in watching free TV.

Check your pm's.

Re: Which receiver/system to buy ?

Dreambox 500s is under £150 and does everything the more expensive ones do. You can't fit a hard drive but you can record to your PC hard drive.

Only recommended if your technically minded or PC literate.

There's another post on cards, dish sizes, costs etc here (post #14):

Premership Football from next season
