Re: TV Via the internet ?
Loads of internet based tv stations (just search internet tv on google), but most are pretty his and miss affairs mate ...........
No chance of HDTV channels over the internet though, normal DVBs signals transmit at 2mbps and cant be streamed without compression first.
Cable are introducing a range of HD channels if that available in your area ?

BT are rolling out their IPTV service called BT Vision which uses their own ISP to deliver SD content via a 2meg minimum ADSL line with no chance of streaming HD until we see the 21st Century network.
Tiscali and Homechoice are merging so expect that xDSL TV service to expand it's coverage.

Re: TV Via the internet ?
The fact that the building is listed means that you can't bolt a dish to it but there's nothing to stop you putting one up on a patio mount in the garden.

Planning permission requirements do not only apply to dishes mounted on the building - they apply to all dishes on the property including the garden and patio. You are more likely to get away with it but it is still illegal without planning permission

PP is only required for a permanent structure. If for example the dish is on a patio stand that is screwed to a lump of railway sleeper that is sat on the lawn then this mobile, tempoorary structure does not require PP.

Re: TV Via the internet ?
I think the planning permission varies regionally.
I remember someone fairly local to me having a ground mounted dish and having to remove it eventually.
He lived in a big house in a nice posh area, someone complained about the dish, council got involved, planning permission applied for and refused, appealed and lost, still refused to remove the dish and got taken to court etc and had loads of costs to pay.
Was in our local papers at the time.
I think a small well hidden ground mounted dish would be OK in most areas though, unless you have problems with neighbours.
Mark.

Re: TV Via the internet ?
I don't know where you are living now.
BUT if you are in a cable area you can get TV like that! If you are in London you can also get TV through Homechoice/Tiscali TV which is IPTV like BT are bringing out but already in existance! It is also coming to Birmingham, Edinburgh and Newcastle by April I believe.
Of course all those areas can get cable from Virgin I am sure and I am sure you have considered those options.
I was living in Ealing in London for about a year from last summer and I had Homechoice - and I loved it the whole VOD and Internet through the phone AND It was cheaper than NTL which I could have had in the same area.
I never understood (and maybe someone can explain) why NTL cable was slower and more expensive than Blueyonder even though two roads down from me could get BY and I could only get NTL!? and they are the same company as well! now of course both Virgin!
