What happens when analogue tvs disappear?

We currently have a tv downstairs with Sky+ that connects to the tv via scart (yet to get an LCD).

We also have the 2nd RF output wired to a splitter/signal booster in the ceiling which then splits the sky signal to other televisions in the house. Obviously these televisions need an analogue tuner to display the sky picture coming via an RF signal.

My question is.. What happens when analogue televisions are no longer sold and we have digital tvs with only digital tuners in them. How will I be able to send my signal around like its currently done?

Thanks in advance,

Edward

edit: This may be better placed in the Sky+ forum, sorry.

Re: What happens when analogue tvs disappear?

The actual tv will still be ok digital just refers to the input signal from the main aerial to the freeview ,sky box etc if you are receiving that signal and splitting it to other tv's then these still can be normal telly's
Digital doesn't refer to the telly just the input signal

Re: What happens when analogue tvs disappear?

I think that's a valid question actually - once all analogue transmissions are gone, the TV mfrs could save some pennies by removing the analogue tuner from the designs - this would have no effect on the TV in normal operation, but would totally fup this kind of in-house distribution.

Re: What happens when analogue tvs disappear?

Well. I'm not going to worry about it for another 4 or 5 years, but after that, I guess the alternatives are either that Sky box of the time provides digital format output on RF, or some sort of analogue to digital convertor.

Potentially, a real PITA - I have 2 Sky boxes, another Sat box and a VCR all being shared on analogue - could need 4 x AD convertors, or a 4 channel device.

Or maybe everything will be shared by WiFi by then anyway - there are already starting to be sets that come with Wifi transmitter and receiver.

Re: What happens when analogue tvs disappear?

Just to be clear - I'm assuming that you're asking for replacement TVs for the ones that you have? (as the current ones will continue to work)

Wouldnt it be more likely that future Sky boxes would have no RF output? These were only ever there for backwards compatibility as some older TV's did not have scart connectors, that certainly won't be the case for new ones.
