Satellite Questions
Hey
Just got a few questions about setting up a HD RECEIVER/BOX.
How do i point my dishtowards whatever i need to? Not sure yet, i just want BBC HD.
Do you have any link's to a HD Receiver and dish that will work together. I would prefer it to be on the cheap size but will be displayed on a 42" LCD. So good quality video.
Is a motorised unit easy to use? Do i just input the coordinates into a computer and it points to them. (I think im right in saying that).
Thanks

Re: Satellite Questions
An HD receiver is no different to a regular one except it can decode HD signals.
Unless you only want to look at 28.2E your options are 2 LNBS or a motor.
If you know what you're doing motorised is easy but your post suggests you need to do lots of background reading or pay someone for an "out of the box" solution (without meaning to sound rude).
How much is "cheap"?
The HD signal will be HD so the picture will be good; SD on a 42" will be less good (qed).

Re: Satellite Questions
Hi Guys,
Have just brought a quad LNB to fit onto an 80cm dish to pick up sky hd. Does anybody know if the LNB case should be waterproof? The one I have has a gap on the top were the two plastic halves are joined and I am worried that it will let water in and destroy the LNB.
Thanks

Re: Satellite Questions
LNBs are cast in metal and the two halves are hermetically sealed so the only bit you need to worry about is the F connector. Always fit self-amalgamating tape (a bit fiddly) or a rubber boot with silicone grease - see picture:

Re: Satellite Questions
The satellite you want for BBC HD is 28.2. This is Skys satellite, and is a bugger to tune to without metering equipment. Best idea is to ring a local Independant Engineer after you have set up the system and get him to do it for you. People will say 'well I did mine myself'- Prob is if the signal isnt peak you're gonna damage the box. As concerns your tv, shouldnt worry too much. Im assuminjg it has a HD input, if so no probs. Not sure what you got but Skys HD STB is capable of much more than most TVs are capable of. Its all about pixels. Get a Sony Bravia or a Panasonic Viera. These are the best two on the market for Skys HD STB. Good luck! Let me know how you get on.

How? Worst case is that you get no picture.

Re: Satellite Questions
Does any one know why I can't both 28,2 + 28,5 at the same time on ONE LNB on my pace ds810.? All my previous receivers never had this problem ..

Where are you?
What size dish?
Is it fixed or motorised?
Have you done a channel scan on both satellite positions seperately from the menus?
Sorry we are not clairvoyant and that info is essential to answer that sort of query

Re: Satellite Questions
I live in oxon , using standard sky mini dish ,Grundig LNB. Have done scans of
both satellites seperately from same menu. It will not offer you 28,2 + 28,5
together - like my Techomate did. It's either one or the other. I think it must be a software issue - I've e-mailed pace c.s. about this last week - yet to hear from them...

Not sure on that box but does it give you more than one option for scanning a satellite?
i.e. Can you scan just transponders (which would only scan the list of transponders stored in the box for that satellite - if this is the only option you will need to manually add the transponders for 28.5 to the 28.2 list)?
If you can also scan all frequencies that will find and add all transponders on both 28.2 and 28.5 to whichever list you are scanning on.

Re: Satellite Questions
I'll have ago at just manually adding transponders later. There is an update
scan - which is supposed add extra channels - it asks you which satellite - you choose 28,5 - on your list is already stored 28.2 - but this becomes deleted when you scan + add 28,5 ! -- However as long as I have BBC Hd
Astra 2 28,2 - I'll be a happy chappy . I'll let you know later how I got on..Thanks for your advice ..Rich..
