Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
I've received a quote from pretty much the only accredited installer in my area that does motorised systems to install a motorised satellite dish and relocate my sky dish to accommodate it. The price is £165+VAT for the labour. There is an additional charge for brackets, mast and bolts. Is this a reasonable price to pay for this work?
While I'm on, I may as well ask this too: I'm planning to get the actual equipment from Satellite Superstore. Are they any good?
Thanks for your help.

I bought a DIY motorised kit off ebay for £120ish and spent a couple of hours installing, with no previous experience. So I should think he could do it in an hour, if that's any help.

Well, the only installer I could find in Edinburgh to fit a motorised dish quoted 500 pounds just for labour. Ihope I am in the catchment of your installer.

Re: Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
if your buying the kit yourself then many CAI or other aerial dish installers will do the job the biggest thing i if there is an issue with the system as you will pay to have it taken down packed up sent away and then the replacement fitted seem easier to get the whole lot from same place fitted then any issues they need to sort it

Actually, that's a good point. Unfortunately, the local installer is charging so much over the online price for the equipment that I just cannot justify it. I'll just have to hope that it's all OK.... which, with my track record with gadgets, may be forlorn!

Tracking the ark is a fiddly job. Lots of swearing from my roof when we attempted it.
Got it in the end though, few hours of fettling required!

Re: Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
You need to make sure your pole/mast is very very plumb, otherwise you'll not be able to track the arc.

Re: Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
As others have said, the trick is getting it to track correctly.
Depending the size of the dish with depend on the tollerences it can work with, typically the smaller the dish the greater the tollerences.
IMO the price you have been quoted is a good one?

Re: Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
Think you forgot to post a link to the supplier.. Anyway, an order is in with Satellite Superstore for the 1500 CI+ Super (£94) and a 90cm Triax dish with 36V motor and V Box. Should be delivered on Friday, with installation booked for next Friday. Can't wait. Thank you all for your advice.

Re: Installing a motorised system - is this reasonable?
Hi,
There is a good forum with all the info you need to install a motorised system, they also sell a Technomate TM-1500ci+ Super full motorised system including cable, wall brackets with bolts\wall plugs, cable, 90cm dish, 0.2LNB F conectors everyting you need in one box for £215 plus £15 delivery. I spoke to the guy who is sound and he said install should cost around £130 give or take a few quid. Also they are a Technomate authorised distributor. Cheers
