Small dish for 19e

I'm looking to get a small dish for 19e and wandered if a sky dish would be ok,the dish would have to be on the front of the house so i don't want anything too big.
I have a sky dish at 28.2e at the moment but thats on the side of the house,19e isn't an option there, i think .

Re: Small dish for 19e

I have a motorised 1m lenson dish at the rear of the house and a 60cm fixed dish at Astra at the front of the house .With Astra having such a strong beam you may get away with something less , but I always thought a 60cms dish was minimum .The thing is , those small *ky dishes are elliptical , I wonder if this will make a difference.

A standard Sky Dish should be fine.

Re: Small dish for 19e

This map would suggest a normal 60cm dish is needed:

http://www.satmania.com/eng/satchann...stra_1h/33/104

Try google with "footprint 19.2E"

A guess, but an educated guess, nobody can guarantee a dish size, there are so many other factors involved, IE; Receiver type, LNB type, length of cable run etc. etc.

Re: Small dish for 19e

Thanks for the input guys ,i could just try moving the dish and see if i can get it,now for the stoopid question ,looking from the back of the dish would i need to move it left or right.
I won't even be trying this without a meter and a compass to give me some idea.

Re: Small dish for 19e

From behind, move it to the right about 10 degrees (assuming it's now pointing at 28.2E).

Given the length of the LNB some basic trig should help you calculate how far to rotate it (even then it'll be approximate). Once (if) you lock on to 19.2 and scan a few channels you can fine tune it by turning the dish when viewing a channel to increase the SNR and AGC and reduce the BER e.g get a better picture.

Re: Small dish for 19e

Thanks mhuk05 youv'e been a great help yet again, for some reason i had got it into my head it needed to go left,at least this means i could put a dish further back down the side of the house if i need too.

Re: Small dish for 19e

The dish needs to be rotated very approximately 9 degrees west and up a bit.

Re: Small dish for 19e

I have been told a zone2 sky dish should be fine,i have a zone1 ,does anyone know if the size is measured from the sides or top to bottom to get the 60cm.

Re: Small dish for 19e

Just thought i would update on this.
In the end i bought a zone 2 sky dish off ebay (£23 inc delivery), a sat finder/meter(£5.80 inc) and a Diseqc 4X1 switch (£6.99 inc delivery).
I was expecting to spend hours setting it all up ,it must have been beginers luck because i found 28.2e instantly ,i plugged the cable into the lnb and went back into the house .
I swapped over the cables on the receiver expecting to get nothing at all but i got the satellite with good signal strength ,that would have been great if i wanted 28.2e .
I went back onto the roof ,porch roof single storey,i hate hights, this time i thought i would use the sat finding meter,i couldn't see the meter very well from the dish but it has a built in tone system that increased with signal strength,i moved the dish to the left until the tone increased then i moved it up a little and it increased a little more.
Back into the house and bbc world on 19e was on ,i checked the signal and it was as a nice and strong .
I hooked up the diseqc switch to both the dishes and all works great .
In all it took me no longer than 20mins from the ladder comming out the shed to going back in allthough a few of the wires aroung the dieqc switch need to be smartend up, the best thing about it is the wife didn't even notice anything .
Next time a motorized dish .

Re: Small dish for 19e

That's good news

Once you've found your southerly satellite, motorised is easy. Took me a few, mutter mutter, days to find mine. Ahem... It was my first satellite setup though.

Re: Small dish for 19e

Well i was expecting never to find it , i knew the elevation needed to be about 26.2-26.5 which did help.
