Hotbird and Eurobird via a skydigi box

Hi,

Have a few questions about trying to get a signal from hotbird/eurobird. Currently I have a skydigibox/dish (which is pointing at 28.2E for the Astra Cluster) and I pick up the freesat channels with that.

I've seen pics of dish's with 3 lnbs each then pointing at different Sat's, i.e. Astra, hotbird and eurobird. If Iwas to add 2 extra lnb's (suppose one of those monoblocks that has 2 lnbs 6' apart) is there an optimum position I should point the dish at or would it be possible to leave it at 28.2E ?
Also the dish is currently at an elevation of 22', does that work aswell for dish's pointing to different satelite's ?

And finally, while testing this , (as I know I'd probably need a better sat receiver later on and a diseqc switch), on the digibox signal test page, what values should you see in "Network ID" and "Transport Stream" when connected to hotbird or Eurobird ?

thanks,
d...

Re: Hotbird and Eurobird via a skydigi box

See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/page9.htm

Astra 2 at 28.2'E
Default transponder - 11.778V
Network ID is 0002
Transport Stream is 07d4

Hotbird
Network id = 013e
Transport stream = 1450

Astra 1 at 19.2'E
Network id = 0001
Transport Stream = 042c

See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/astra19.htm
(But I think it's well out of date).

Re: Hotbird and Eurobird via a skydigi box

You will NOT be able to use a monobloc (at least if it has inbuilt DiSEqC) as the Sky dodgibox will not be able to send the required signals to change satellites via the DiSEqC.

You will need a "proper" satellite receiver to do that.

You would be able to use a dodgibox to view more than one satellite by changing cables each time you want to change satellite BUT any channels on satellites other than 28.2 (The one Sky digital broadcasts from) will need adding manually as "other channels" on the Sky box and you are limited to a maximum of 50 channels.

Agreed, A Sky Box isn't really suitable for anything much other than Sky.

If you mean by this that you're putting another dish up - I *think* you need planning permission. Though I'm not 100% sure if that holds in Ireland too.
You can have a single dish with a triple LNB holder - they come in one unit ready for pointing to all of Hotbird (13E), Astra (19E) and Sky (28E). Take the feed from the Sky LNB to your existing digibox, then take the feed from the other 2 LNBs to a new receiver, like a Technomate.

thanks, never heard of a planning permission thing for 2 dish's in Ireland, might look into that to be sure.

Suppose could put a monoblock and a single lnb on one dish ( if from what I read is true a bigger 80cm dish), to do it that way though, which lnb should be the center one ? the one pointing to 19' ?

Re: Hotbird and Eurobird via a skydigi box

I've got two dishes on my house, one has a mono-bloc and the other is sky with a quad.

Sky receivers are only good for sky, believe me you can't do anything GOOD with them.
