Is FreeSat this bad?

I've been told by a couple of people that if I get a Freesat Sky dish I will have loads of problems with interference (ie - during strong winds etc)

Does this sound right? I was thinking of buying Freesat but now Im having my doubts. If I go for freeview then it means that I have to pay for a new aerial to be fitted.

What are the pro's and con's to freesat?
Anybody on here wanna share their views and help me decide what to do?

Re: Is FreeSat this bad?

Strong winds will have no affect on the signal however if a dish is poorly installed than obviously it could move and even fall off which would ruin reception. Remember that an aerial could also be blown down and that would for a time ruin terrestrial reception, end of the day weather and enviroment could disrupte any distribution system even cable.

Both Freeview and Freesat are fine if installed correctly so choose which you want from the channel lineups, if you choose Freeview than also consider a DVR they make watching telly so much more user friendly

Re: Is FreeSat this bad?

I have only ever lost the signal in very heavy rain or snow,2 or 3 times in a year.

I have an 80cm dish and have not lost the signal in ten years.

Re: Is FreeSat this bad?

you wont have any problems with sky minidhishes as they are mesh so the wind will blow through them and they are small so aren't affect as much as motorised satellite dishes

Re: Is FreeSat this bad?

You are mistaken. Sky minidishes are not "mesh". Some types have perforated holes but these do not reduce the wind loading at all.

Indeed. The holes are tiny and are too small a fraction of the overall area to make any significant difference to wind loading.
