TV Link amplifier - poor reception

Please help me, my girlfriend is going mad

Two weeks ago i decided to install TV link in three rooms, after a replacing the original amplifier, connectors etc i got TV link working in all the rooms, but the picture quality was poor. When i disconnect the normal ariel in on the sky box i get perfect reception on the sky channel. I was then told that i need to change the RF channel in the setup menu. I have gone from channel 21 - 69, some channels are better than others but still i get a poor picture. I was then told that i need a variable attenuator on the normal TV ariel as the signal is too strong. Tonight i have just installed the variable attenuator and i still get a poor picture. The only way i can get a good picture in the additional rooms is by disconnecting the ariel in on the sky box and only watching the sky channel.

I hope this is can be understood, please i need help, i have run out of ideas and my girlfriend and her children are going mad

Cheers

Guy

I think you've omitted some details but let's try to get the facts right:

1. The original amplifier gave perfect Sky pictures ?

2. When you disconnect the "Ariel" (name of a motorbike manufacturer or washing powder) the Sky pictures are OK ?

3. You've replaced the original amplifier with a different one, without altering anything else at all, and the Sky pictures are now "poor quality" (meaning grainy, lines, coloured stripes, coloured squares - what?)

If that's all true, you've pinpointed the new amplifier as the culprit. Maybe it has the wrong gain or a poor noise figure. Maybe you haven't connected the power to it. Maybe the plugs aren't soldered to the cable?

What is the new amplifier (make/model)? What is the variable UHF attenuator (make/model)?
