Unhappy TV Link

Hi, I am having a nightmare with my trying to get a TV link to work. I have run a satellite cable from my Pace Digibox RF2 connecton to a second tv. (I have turned the power on to the RF2 connection ) . I have connected the satellite cable to the TV link and the TV link to the 2nd TV with another piece of satellite cable. The red light on the TV link is on, the piture and sound is great but the remote will not change the channel. Has anyone any ideas or am I the purchaser of a duff TV link?

Stuart

Have you got a multimeter ?

If so test the voltage of the cable before it goes into the TV link this should be a minimum of 8.1v DC anything less and the TV link will not change channels.

If it is below this then try the TV link directly connected to the RF 2 on the Digibox.

If this works then there is an issue with your cabling if not then try a friends Digibox it is a common fault for the RF 2 not to kick out enough juice.

Hi, thanks very much, I've tried connecting the TV link directly to the RF2 on the digibox ( it only works if its also connected to the TV, otherwise there is no red light) and it does work. I'm not sure what issue there could be with the cabling, it's brand new satellite cable about 15 metres long from RF2 to the Tv Link, perhaps its too long to keep the 9v to the link?

Which suggests there is a fault as it should work (red led should come on) whether a TV is connected or not...do you have it connected properly?...the cable from RF2 goes to the female socket on the TV link.

Sorry about that - I'll cut out every second or third word to make it shorter

If it doesn't help just let us know and we can use whatever the answer is to get yours working to update the FAQ

I'm still stuck, I can get the TV link to work near to the Digibox (having blocked out the ordinary remote sensor but not in the other room. The red light does shine brightly but the remote dosen't work. Perhaps the voltage is not traveling the length of the cable?

Try doing a download to the digibox this can sometimes reactivate the RF2 to give the correct voltage.

I'm confused. You're saying the red light shines brightly at the remote end? So it's powered at the remote end then...

Is this cable just one long interrupted run of cable from RF2 to remote TV or are there wall plates and splitters in the way?

Maybe you need to look at some wiring pictures?

The TV link works if I connect it to the RF2 socket and to the TV next to the Digibox. The red light does not come on of if I just connect it to the RF2. The cable to the other room is one continuous length (15 metres approx) of satelite cable. If I conect the Tv link to the end of it the red light does not come on, however it does come on if I then connect it to the Second Tv - but it does not change the channel at this end. The sky pictre and sound is very good at the second Tv.

That's the problem...it should.

I agree with JayCee - if you attach the tvLink to the RF2 (with nothing else connected from the tvLink out) and the light doesn't come on on the tvLink - then that's a problem with either the RF signal being sent from the box or a fault with the box or the tvLink (see FAQ for more).

I don't understand how the tvLink can work off the local TV without power unless it's getting just enough power locally, but the signal isn't reaching the end of the cable - likely a Sky RF out fault. If you've definitely enabled RF out as per the FAQ, and the box just isn't working properly, then a powered tvLink could work instead of fixing the box.

Thanks for all your help everyone , I think it's a power issue with the digibox. I'll look at options to replace or repair.

I'd kick that off as a new thread.
