Interference on Phone line

I have a problem with terrible interference on phone line whilst making phone calls.

I have a sky+ box in the living room and the telephone cable for this is run around the inside of the house under the carpets and is approx 10mtrs long.

The phone line which plugs into the back of the Sky+ box is connected to the main BT box through a double connector (for main phone also) which is then plugged into my ADsL filter.

If I disconnect the Sky telephone connection the interference disappears!

Does anyone have some advice / ideas??

If you have had your sky subscription for more than 12 months then you don’t need to have it plugged in. Although I would suggest that you keep it plugged in to stop sky from moaning at u. may be just unplug it when making a call if you can its a pain i know but i dont have any better ideas.

I may be reading that wrong but is the filter in the right place in the chain (i.e. FIRST)?

BT wall socket - ADSL filter - doubler plug - phone/Sky.

The filter is in the right place, but not all filters are created equally. Try a better filter - the cheap ones don't work too well.

Hi.

It is possible for different makes of filters used on the same line(s) to cause problems, so it may be best to, say, try to buy a complete set of the same make and also have some spares of the same make. I believe BT have some, although I would assume they are expensive!

From my experience of telephone lines, they can be a real pain if every aspect is not nigh on perfect!

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Carl

You should have a filter for each separate device. So it should be:

Phone -> filter -> splitter -> }
Digibox -> filter -> splitter -> } wall socket

One filter is enough provided everything but your DSL connection comes after it. This doesn't sound like DSL noise - can you be more specific about the noise/interference. What happens if you put the $ky box on standby or turn it off completely or unplug it from the mains or unplug its Scart lead?

More importantly, if you unplug the ADSL modem or router, does the noise disappear ? If it doesn't, it's nothing at all do do with ADSL.

I bought some filters from maplins today and put them on each telephone line.

Its now,

BT Socket
-
Double adapter
-
ADSL filter - Sky+
ADSL Filter - Telephone

I have also re-wired the BT box to have a cable coming out which goes to my PC upstairs.

All the interference has now gone.

p.s. I tried unplugging the Sky+ box and the interference vanished but it was not really practical. The noise was like a white noise of a radio not tuned in to a station.

Thanks for all your advice.
