Question remote extenders

Newbie question, so sorry if it's been covered before........are Sky Digi Eyes any good? Seems like a cheap and easy way to get Sky to another room. Any views or links to previous threads appreciated.

I think you are referring to devices such as the "tvLINK"? These are "remote extenders". They fit in the cable which takes your Sky RF output to your second TV and they allow you to use the remote control from there. They do not "get Sky to another room" - the cable does that.

Thanks - but you know what I mean - they allow you to control Sky from another room..... I was on about these;

.....but I still don't know if they work well or not. Can anyone tell me?

They work, provided that you follow the instructions.

I've just bought one of them and cant get the eye to work. Everything is wired up fine as I already get sky in the other room. Only one place to plug the eye into upstairs. Surely it's got to be faulty. Can anyone give me any ideas before I get my lazy a*se back to the shops

Ok, here goes. Most of this was done before I moved in so I'm guessing this is how it works.

Aerial in the loft - cable runs to socket in the bedroom - splitter - downstairs to socket in the lounge.
Sky from outside to same socket in the lounge and then one co-axial goes into back of sky box (aerial point)

Without running anymore cables I am able to watch sky upstairs at the moment.
The rf2 on sky box is screwed back into the wall socket that aerial comes out of. I think I need to run a seperate cable from rf2 back upstairs to bedroom socket.

I wont even mention the fact that I can watch sky in conservatory also.

Hope this is clearer for you.

Slightly

Let me check this:
  • Sky feed from outside to socket in lounge with cable from that socket direct into Sky box.
  • Aerial cable feed from loft into bedroom socket, behind which there is a splitter. One half of splitter feeds out the socket, where you have this plugged into your TV. The other half runs to another cable that runs down to the lounge.
  • Cable from bedroom splitter comes down to another socket in lounge, which has a cable coming from it to the Sky Box RF2 connection.
So:
  • Is that right?
  • What splitter do you have? Names / numbers / anything like the FAQ pictures? Is it just a Y splitter?
  • Do you tune to the aerial from the bedroom TV at all?
  • Do you care about an aerial connection?
Al.

Theres only one socket in the lounge with aerial and sky going in/out of it. The house was completely re-wired and re-plastered before I moved in, so all the cables for speakers are hidden behind plaster board. I'm guessing thats where all the connections for the tv/sky are also.

Thanks for trying to get your head round this but I'm just going to give up and run a seperate cable. I've already tried this by moving the other tv nearer and using a short piece of cable.

No probs. My guess is that you don't need the cable and could re-use, but a new cable is easiest
