Thomson PVR3 noise

I just got Sky plus installed today and have noticed that the box is extremely noisy.

Is this a common fault and should I ask Sky for new box?

All the boxes make noise whether its a Pace, Thomson or Amstrad. The Amstrad make more of a clicking noise especially when recording. The fans on all the boxes are loud if you have a box in the bedroom.

In the living room I dont notice the noise on any of the boxes Ive had(Pace & AMstrad). in the bedroom though its different. If my wife didnt like SKy+ so much I'm sure the box would have been thrown out the window by now For some reason even in standy the box start whirling like its about to take off. I assume its the fan. It always wakes my wife up in the middle of the night and the box clicks if volumes not up high. After a minute or so its stops!

Yes thomsons are just plain noisy

had mine installed 2 months ago,you get ticking when it starts up and then an additional whine from the hard disc then one from the fan also!

by common consent it as agreed that the pace is the quietest-so if you're unhappy then request a replacement pace box - you may get lucky

after 3 months they will only replace with refurbished boxes if you have a problem

i've yet to decide whether i'm keeping mine or going to complain

do a search this topic has been discussed on more than one occasion

my Pace PVR3 is quiet as a mouse for the most part, even in the dead of night i only once in a while hear the odd few scratches from the HDD if i'm recording.....but certainly next to no fan noise........not sure about when its in full swing in use during the day, i have a PC HDD sitting on a table to my left and a 7205 projector about 3ft behind me...lol
