(Another) HTPC Question

Right then.

At the moment, we have Sky, but have no subscription - I.e: we are just getting the Free channels.

I have managed to hunt down a PCI Card for my soon-to-be HTPC, the Hauppage Nova-S. From what I can gather I can just pop the cable from my Digital Satellite into the back & away to go - but im sure I am mistaken.

Will there be any problems decoding etc? Hopefully I will be able to get rid of my current sky box. Ayone had a setup like this before? Would really like to get some info on it before I spend all this money on a PC.

Oh and some additional info: I cannot get Freeview in my area, so a PC Card that gets freeview is out of the question.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You will only be able to receive channels that are 'in the clear'. A lot of the freesat channels on Sky are unfortunately not in the clear, so it will probably not do exactly what you are looking for.

The more useful thing on the Nova-S is it's ability to receive broadband over satellite, although if you have DSL/Cable then that really is of no importance. To get an idea of the channels available just take your Sky card out of the box and have a flick through, if memory serves only BBC1,2,3,4/ITV1,2,3,4/Shopping channels are there, none of the C4 channels are available (annoying).

Your best bet would be to get a freeview capable board and get the freeview OTA, or scart to SVideo the satellite box into the HTPC
