Question Signal Quality

[FONT=Comic Sans MS]Hello, I have a Sky Box and Card to recieve Free To Air/View Channels however my picture isn't great . My signal strength is roughly usually 80-90 but the signal quality is between 35-50 why is the signal quality crap ? Is the dish out of line or something? Any info would be great.

Thanks Andy

how long has the dish been up there?
if its a long time then check the cable and also when mine started breaking up mainly on bbc channels its was a faulty LNB and it wont hurt to check the alignment of the dish if its been up a while.

Hi, The dish has been up for under a year in its new position, it is on the roof so a little hard to access, however the dish has been in use for a a few years before for internet usage. the cable was all new but could have come loose or the LNB like you say could be a faulty.

Thanks

It's most likely to be a faulty LNB, but could be poor alignment.

Probably slightly out of alignment ; something must have deteriorated. Check everything is connected and watertight.
It's the quality that really matters rather than the signal strength as quality represents the BER (bit error rate).
Low quality = high BER = continuity errors in the bitstream.

Tha Pace 2200 is very long in the tooth now and doesn't respond well to a poor signal. Worth replacing the LNB if it's been up there that long, especially if it's a 'Cambridge' type. Dish realignment may well be all that's needed though.

Then I'll be going to the paper shop, coming back for a coffee, having a dump, watching 'This Morning'.......

Full daily schedule available on request.
