Sky sports (inc. F1) free this weekend. Encryption?

This weekend, the Sky Sports channels are free. So, I'll hopefully be able to watch the German GP live.

My TV setup is a Windows 7 media center PC with a satellite dish, so I can get the Freesat channels. I've just done a scan on the appropriate frequency to get the Sky Sports F1 HD channel (and enabled it in the guide), but when I try to view the channel, it says the channel is encrypted.

Are the sky channels actually being broadcast in-the-clear this weekend, or are they only viewable on a Sky or Virgin Media box?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. That's a shame. Sounds like I won't even be able to dig out my old ITGate box either.

Can I venture to suggest it is also available to those with a sky box that are no longer subscribers but have an old sky card

Have you got it in that way because this says it is customers only NOT ex customers or FSFS

So how will it work?

If you are a Sky or Virgin Media customer, all you have to do is simply turn to the Sky Sports Channel of your choice and enjoy! For any other platform, please contact your provider.

No!!!

Why is it when Sky do a free weekend we get the same misunderstanding about it being free?

Yes it's free for Sky subscribers who don't have the sports!
