They both run the same broadcom Chipset BM7413 and both have plug & Play tuners although the ultimo has 3x and the ET9500 only 2x, Quite a nice big display on the Ultimo as well and probably has that little bit more support too.

Price for the Ultimo has dropped in the last few days with 2x tuners to £399 and i believe the 9500 may come in at around £349 IMHO the extra £50 is worth it on the Ultimo.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Ultimo, then waited to do a bit more research after negative reviews of their tuners being over sensitive, apparently they struggle with weak transponders. I like the idea of 2 satellite tuners + 1 cable tuner. The prices have gone down indeed.

Correct i owned one they are indeed not as sensitive as they should be, i di numerous tests with different brands of receivers some could not match the Ultimo but some like the Technomate 5402HD put it too shame, the tuner sensitivity is only one aspect of the ultimo and i came to realise that its a great satellite receiver just not one for feed hunting

That all depends on what you want out of the receiver, If its just general satellite viewing, recording etc... then the Ultimo or 9500 are absolutely fine. If your looking at weak/fringe reception 4:2:2 feed hunting then there are other receivers available although all Linux receivers are 4:2:2 capable via the web interface and VLC

Blindscan is available on both of the receivers you mentioned as they boyh share the same chipset which is also used in the ET9000,9100,9200,Vu Uno and probably some others as well

Does the V Lt do PIP?
Know the V+duo doesn't.

I don't know, I'm also trying to find out before I buy. Is the tuner on the ET9500 'bad' as well comparing to the Ultimo

Not sure but I'd go for ET9500 over V ULT

Own a V+duo and not that happy with it compared to my DM8000.

Probably just comparing it to the DM, not as stable but that may come down to the VIX image.

The Vu Ultimo and ET9500 both do PIP,Blindscan etc... as i mentioned they both share the same mainboard chipset so are near enough identical apart from some cosmetic changes and one extra tuner.

Been looking @ the Ultimo today, can be had for a very good price now, compared to what i paid for my DM8000 its bloody cheap.
499£ with 3 Sat tuners and 500gb HD.

Wonder what play backs like on downloaded films? My V+Duo is poor. Where the DM8000 is perfect.

My old ET9000 played MKV's perfect never a problem again though it had the same chipset as the 9500 and Ultimo, The prices have toppled if i was tempted again i would just get a standard 2 tuner one at £399 and wait for the Plug & Play dual tuner due to arrive in the next few weeks.

Dont panic the Plug & Play Dual tuners are compatible with the Vu Uno,Ultimo and the forthcoming Duo2, I have an Uno myself now and only purchased due to the fact that i had heard a rumour of the Dual tuner to be released shortly which will turn my Uno into a Duo but with better specification.

As far as i am aware from reading on the matter the Ultimo will only be able to take 2 x Dual Tuners and the 3rd slot not too sure about, No one has given any reason yet as to why the Ultimo can only take 2 twins and not the anticipated 3 twins which would have made it a 6 DVB-S2 tuner receiver or to put it another way a DM8000 killer. Word has it that its probably a driver constraint and nothing to do with the Linux system perhaps this will be rectified in the future who knows.

Well as production of the DM8000 is stopping we can already say it's now killed.

Still a fantastic sat box the DM8000, had mine probably 3 years plus.

Got it from sat shop. Google it will come up. I'm using BH image. It's slow for my liking when doing sat scans. I'm impressed with the interface and huge VFD. I'm still toying around, but generally I think its a good machine. I have installed a 250gb from old receiver and I can play the ts files. I will have a lot of time to play with it at the weekend then give an update. I will try other images to c what they r like. I have a cable tuner but seem not to find anything. I have to sort the xml file then take it from there. I'm fairly new to the linux world of sat receivers.

Where about are you in UK? Can you get a signal on PLTV 10e?

JSC 1 and 2 are FTV on 7w at the moment also. Don't bother with scanning just load an upto date channel list.

Look forward to your thought, some pictures would be nice also. Lol
