Panasonic TX-L37DT30B can not detect any satellite signal

I have 2 sat receivers at home and they receive good signal from Hot Bird no problem. Using the same wires and the same wall sockets Panasonic TX-L37DT30B can not detect any satellite signal.

I am using search for "any other satellite" and "Hot Bird" but no satellite signal detected. If I plug the cable back into the other receiver the signal is absolutely fine.

I have taken the TV back to the shop and exchanged it for another set but the result is still the same - cannot see satellites.

Please tell me what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

The TX-L37DT30B incorporates a UK Freesat receiver so the dish needs to be aligned on Astra-2, not HotBird.

Martin,

The satellite tuner has 2 options - Freesat and Other Sat. I appreciate that to pick the Freesat you need a dish pointing at Astra 2, however for the Other Sat version, it allows you to search for all receivable digital satellite channels on any satellite, like an ordinary free to air satellite receiver. Furthermore, under Other Sat there is an option to search for Hot Bird. And this is what I would like to tune into.

The signal from the satellite is entering TV but not being recognised for some reason.

Thanks

Try a manual tune on a known working transponder on Hotbird.

Adrian,

Yes, this did the trick. Once I have searched specific transponder, all channels from that transponder came through.

I have tried to do this on the first TV set but it definitely did not work.

The other thing I did on this one was software update over Internet.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Paul

What about the channels from all the other transponders?

I have manahed to pick a few other individual transponders and all the channels tuned have been added to the list.

Now, when I thought it is going to work, I switched to the Freeview, scrolled through a few channels and then went back to the list of Other Sat channels and, guess what - no satellite signal detected again...

I am lost... Looks like some sort of issue with the tuner or software

Tried to restore to the factory settings and the Other Sat option has also vanished from the TV selection screen... As a TV input I now have freesat, DVB and Analogue only.

When the last time I managed to get individual transponder tuned in under freesat menue/other sat manual tuning then the 4th TV input appeared on the menue - Other Sat. Now it is gone and I dont know how to get it back... Trying to get transponder tuned now (same as before) and it is just hanging there with nothing going on.

Can you get to the menu item for Signal Strength and Quality as shown at the bottom left of Manual page 56?
You said you are "using the same wires" - why plural, and what are they?

I think I found the problem. Triax multiswitch setup!

To explain, there are multiple outlets around the house all originate from the Triax 9 in 16 out multiswitch. 2 Quatro LNBs are feeding it. One is for Hot Bird and another is currently unused (will do freesat on it later).
I remember that during setup I was told to connect wires from the first LNB into the miltiswitch Input 1 and tune that satellite, then connect the second LNB into the same Input 1 and tune that one. Then connect LNBs into Input 1 and Input 2 in any order and use DiSEqC switch in the receiver to select which satellite goes into which input. Both of my existing sat receivers were configured that way and they both worked fine.
The Hot Bird LNB was in the Input 2 and the other one was using Input 1.

Receiver in the Panasonic apparently does not have DiSEqC capability. This is when I thought that it may need to have the Hot Bird fed into Input 1. So I did and it worked fine, even with the Auto Setup. All I then did was to reconfigure LNB allocations in the existing receivers to suit.

All seems to be working now...

Fingers crossed...

TVs don't do DiSeqC switching.
That was one reason why I asked you about the "wires".

I have tested this setup by connecting TV to vatious outlets where the existing receivers were plugged in - therefore used different wires. There was always only one wire at any time from the socket to the TV in any of my "trials".

That's what I assumed, as TVs have only one LNB In socket, so the plural of wires was confusing, but the multiple outlets now explain it.

If you'd provided that multiswitch information at the start we'd have told you that the satellite you want to have as "default" must be on input 1. It's a no-brainer.

As it was, we all assumed you had a simple 2 LNB setup, so what you described was technically impossible.

I get this all the time with would-be customers. I plead with them to show me their wiring diagram but they'd rather write me an essay, which omits a vital piece of information that would have been obvious on a diagram.
