3DTV - Non Sky 'broadcast 3D' channel info

I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have multisatellite and also have a genuine interest in broadcast 3DTV which is receivable in the UK.

This thread is NOT for the discussion of the pros and cons of 3DTV, there's plenty of that elsewhere on the forum and so please no posts like '3D is a waste of time' or 'I would never buy a 3D TV' etc etc. If you want to post that sort of crap please start your own thread

As 3D channels seem to be popping up all over the arc I thought it would would be a good idea to post info about satellite, provider and parameters etc.

Please feel free to add any other info and I will try and keep this thread updated with latest info.

No special satellite receiver is required for broadcast side by side 3D, any HD receiver should be ok, I use a Dreambox DM8000, however a 3D TV will be required. Whether or not you can open the encrypted channels of course will depend on the equipment and setup you have I should imagine some of these channels will be showing Worldcup footy in 3D I guess I should point out I don't have a 3D telly yet, I'm hoping to get the Samsung 63" plasma when it's available, hopefully soon

ASTRA 28.2E

12.460 H 3/4 29500 encrypted ID Sky 3D

This is Sky UK 3D channel with various demo and preview material along with live 3D football for pubs only at this time. Full time broadcasts for home use begin in the Autumn with sport, films and more.

ASTRA 23.5E

11.778 V 9/10 27500 FTA ID ASTRA 3D Demo

This channel started last week in time for the Anga satellite and cable show in Germany. AFAIK the channel is to remain as Astra's 3D promo channel. Shows a broad range of 3D demo material.

ASTRA 19.2E

10.832 H 2/3 22000 FTA ID ANIXE HD

This channel has been broadcasting 3D tennis in the late evening and I have read it has applied for a licence to start a dedicated 3D channel.

11.097 V 5/6 22000 Encrypted ID Canal+ 3D

Spanish

10.832 H 2/3 22000 Encrypted ID Eurosport 3D Panasonic

French I think

HOTBIRD 13.0E

12.303 V 2/3 27500 FTA ID CANAL+ 3D test

This channel is from the Polish provider Cyfra+, at the moment they are just showing a continuous 30sec loop but this coming Saturday May 15th they will be showing live 3D football from their own PL, Sunday May 16th they will be showing Coraline which I believe is the first showing of 3D movie anywhere in Europe. Usually on their other film channels they broadcast the original language, hopefully this will be the case here too as I will be recording it.

12.303 V 2/3 27500 Encrypted ID Eurosport 3D Panasonic

French again

EUROBIRD 9.0E

This bird seems to be turning into a bit of a hotspot for 3D as there is currently 3 channels for 3D

11.881 V 2/3 27500 FTA ID Euro 1080

This channel now known as HD1 (the first HD channel in Europe) has recently announced it will be a dedicated 3D channel, it says it already has 100 hours of 3D material, consisting of amongst other things sport and concerts, I really look forward to this one.

11.747 H 3/4 27500 FTA ID 3DSatTV

This is Eutelsats 3D demo channel showing various 3D material.

12.380 V 2/3 26400 FTA and encrypted ID 3D

This channel is from the Russian provider Platforma HD, up for just a couple of days now and just showing demo material for now.

THOR6 0.8W

10.934 V 7/8 24500 Encrypted ID Eurosport 3D

Nordic version

HISPASAT 30.0W

11.731 H 3/4 30000 encrypted and FTA ID MEO 3D & OPEN 3D

There are 2 channels on this TP from Portuguese provider MEO, there is a 3D demo loop and a static advertisement for 3D which is what they used for showing 3D tennis recently. I have a Spanish friend that lives in Spain that tells me Canal+ Espania will also be putting up a 3D channel soon that will be showing a minimum of 10 Worldcup matches in 3D.

That's it for now although I fully expect more 3D channels to be popping up soon.

Cyfra+ uses the Mediaguard Seca encryption system. Totally different system to Sky.

Sorry mate, I meant what 3D broadcast system do they use, as there are three systems being used by various groups around the world, the system used by $ky isnt even HD on one of the plains, (Que some $ky fan boy flinging there toys out the pram!). Yet there is a system that enable's 1920x1080 in 3D.

Ah sorry, yes it's the same system as Sky, side by side, yes resolution is lower at 960 x 1080 but still pretty good imho.

There is a good explanation of the various 3D systems by Nielo off this very board, have a read.

Good thread format ... can you keep editing that first post?- that works

Doing a customer's last week & saw a 3d demo on a scan on 42e... can't remember what it was called because you just do so many... but it was actually the old way ... red & green side by side ... & in SD.. very low tech- but still 3D
if anyone can find it if it's still there.

Just found it... 42e .. 12685H 30000- good for a 3D laugh.

I've never been that happy with digital SD quality or HD from any broadcaster or receiver/ screen or editing gear ... I think it's all too low & useless at high speed..

But when I first saw 3D done well- wow .... I'm not bothered that much about the claimed res..

Hello m8, Meo just has the 3D demo loop running at the moment, yes I can clear it.

There are 3 3D demo channels on 9 east.

The Polish 3D Canal+ stopped transmitting and only ever showed a 30 second loop.

Which sat is the Eurosport channel coming from ?

Check here Channels broadcasting in 3D - KingOfSat
