Quad LNB Query

Please help.

i have fitted a quad LNB to my old Sky dish & have got freesat working no problems. When i connect a new cable to one of the other 3 ports i do not seem to be getting a signal to my old sky box, but if i swap the cables i do get a signal to my old sky box using the other cable but then not to my freesat box, it seems the quad LNB is only outputting only one signal at a time. Have i got a dodgy LNB or i doing something wrong?

It's hard to see what you could be doing wrong except perhaps that the extra weight of the quad has put the dish slightly off line due to extra sag in the lnb arm.

Re: Quad LNB Query

Thanks for that.

What i do not understand is how i can only get one signal working at a time, if the arm was out of alianment with the extra weight surley i would not get a signal out of 2 different outputs on the lnb. i take it the didbox sends power down the cable to the lnb do i have to use output 1 first & then output 2 second or does it not matter?

Each lnb is totally independent of the others they don't interact in any way they just have a common screen connection. Each tuner switches polarity on it's own lnb by outputting 12 or 18V DC and frequency band by the prescence or not of a 22Khz tone. It's very odd, are you sure that you have a normal universal quad lnb and have not somehow got hold of a quattro one.

That was my initial thought - except nobody makes a QUATTRO to fit a Sky minidish, so it would have to be bodged with a 40mm adapter.

My other thought was "faulty cable/connector or faulty LNB".

Very strange you would think a faulty one would fail on one or more outputs not when you connect more than one input, unless of course there's some internal short circuit rendering the control signals to more than one lnb. Other than that run out of ideas

Re: Quad LNB Query

Modern LNBs are cheap and cheerful. We had one last week, which had a broken threaded connector. It actually fell off when the cable plug was unscrewed!

Re: Quad LNB Query

I did the same as Hemshems, put a quad lnb on an existing sky minidish (already on the house when I moved in), for an AB IPBox 9000HD, and a Panasonic TU-DS840 sky box, and a spare (for fiddling with!!) and it all works well, including HD channels. I get Astras on 19.2, 23.5 and 19.2 with only a small tweak of the dish from its original position. (I live near Heathrow). I would think that if your wiring is new and good quality (I used new CT100 throughout) and connected correctly at both ends, it can only be a new dud LNB.
